“At a press conference Sunday, Florida Fire and Wildlife Commission said drugs and alcohol were not found on the boat, but they will perform a full toxicology report. They believe speed was a likely factor in the crash. Two of the victims were found under the boat and one was under water. The other two victims weren’t athletes, rather personal friends of Fernandez. They weren’t identified publicly. None of them were wearing life jackets.”

-—I just heard no evidence of drugs or alcohol. What did you hear?-—

I’ve heard nothing, but three young wealthy young men at 3am boating on the ocean...

If booze wasn’t involved, I would be surprised...

I doubt drugs were involved since these guys get tested...

From the photograph it appears they were to the
right of the buoy. Red, Right, Returning.

Although drugs and alcohol were not found on the boat, that isn’t definitive yet. Lots of people get hammered at dock bars all night and then go out for a joy ride. We’ll see if that’s the case or not, but its a very common scenario.

Being out at night is tricky business in any event.

Fernandez, just 24 years old at the time of his death, amassed several eye-popping seasons in his short career on the professional baseball diamond, winning the National League Rookie of the Year award in 2013. He had a career earned-run average of just 2.58 over four seasons. He led baseball this season in strikeouts per nine innings with 12.49 among starting pitchers. He was particularly dominant while playing at home in Miami's Marlins Park, becoming the first pitcher in the modern era to win his first 17 career home decisions. He eventually went on to go 24-1 in his first 25 home decisions.

Holy crap! Incredible numbers. Too bad he hung out with idiots who raced boats too fast, and didn't know where the jettys are in Miami harbor.

Pitched a great game against the Nats last week. Twelve strikeouts and retired 21 in a row.

Jetty's are generally very unforgiving.

He started 10 games and went 7-0, he simply slayed Nats hitting. That last game his change up was killer. It stinks he won’t be competing against them for years to come.

I do not pay any attention to the NL. Is the Marlins in possible play off contention?

They are but there are three teams ahead of them in that race.

Thank-you first and second, I am more of a AL person, the east branch and the games for play off positions are heating. Boston is doing very well. The only time I do hear of the NL is the Mets and Nationals, who just got 1st place position all set.

As a Cardinals fan I have been through the loss of three players and one broadcaster in the last 14 years. Praying for his family, friends, teammates AND the fans.

Also nice to see that the jerks here haven’t come out. When DK died, one poster kept going on about they shouldn’t have cancelled the game.
