Windows 10 update version 1607

How long does this take? Started updating at 10:00 am today. It is now 3:00 pm and I'm at the gray screen with the spinning dots. It already did the 'percent' screen and several restarts. Just wondering how much longer.

I just bought a Windows 10 laptop. So far nothing in the way of a problem. But from what I’ve read here, it’s just a matter of time and Apple’s no better (just more expensive).
Miss my Win7. Hard drive fried and I am told there is no cure so it just sits in the desk waiting for a miracle. :(

My made-for-8.1 and my OEM desktop (the one I affectionately call “Big Brain”) both swallowed the update without a hiccup.

I’ve never had the problems so many people complain of.

Which means of course it’s only a matter of time, right? :)

They Reconfigured the homescreen somewhat too

so you can’t find what you finally learned the last time you were invaded.

Finally found how to put in sleep mode ... Sheesh.

There is a facebook group or individual named

"Windows 10 sucks"

The group or individual rarely posts anything, but today they posted this message:

"Microsoft appear to be preventing users of OEM versions of Windows 7 from getting security updates as well as recommended updates, this also seems to be the case with OEM versions Windows Vista (basically any laptop that came preinstalled with the above versions of Windows seem to be blocked from obtaining undates) lets not forget that support (security updates) does not end until 2017 for Vista and 2020 for Windows 7, so why block these updates? simply because you are being forced to use Windows 10 in every way possible, and also lets not forget the sneaky windows 10 installations if you did not have your windows 7 update settings configured properly (most didn't) many 500,000s+ Windows 7 users were on 10 after a reboot. What does it mean for you to use WIndows 7 without updates? The answer is the Windows 7 Operating system can be easily exploited even when you have anti-virus software installed. What can you to avoid being bullied into using Windows 10? The answer is simple, use Linux."

Maybe this message explains things a little bit.

BTW they start and install updates when I “turn them off”, i.e. I’m done for the day and shut down, but instead of turning off they go into update mode.

Then they turn themselves off.

Sometimes there’s a short delay in turning them back on. Doesn’t matter as my personal start-up routine begins with turning them on, then going for Bible reading and coffee. Usually they’re ready to go when I am.

When was this update released?

Mid-summer - June 28 - but they've been releasing it to the public in increments. This is the "Anniversary Edition". I got the first of my 4 machines upgraded on the day of release, the last of 4 upgraded just last week. So far no problems.

Corrected first line:

"My made-for-8.1 that received the upgrade to 10 and my OEM desktop that came equipped with 10 (the one I affectionately call “Big Brain”) both swallowed the update without a hiccup."

Mine started at 5:30 a.m. this morning, when I turned it on. I spent until lunch trying to undo and reinstall because it really messed up my almost brand new laptop. What a mess. My CPU is running at 100%, and my fan won’t turn off. This makes me SO MAD.

I’ve got a window’s 8 machine I’d like to update to 10... I thought the free update time was over...

Has it been extended?

If this happened to thousands/millions of business users during the work day, just think of all the lost productivity. I hope MS is sued into bankruptcy.

1) Option 1 - put in a new hard drive and install Mint.
2) Option 2 - put in a new hard drive, find someone that has install DVDs for 7, and then try your activation code from the sticker on your computer.

Hard drives are big and cheap these days. Or pull one out of an older computer and wipe it and re-use.

Not sure but I think it’s still available. This is an update to Win 10 that’s giving me grief.
