RIP Alvin Lee. A great guitarist and musician.

Great album. Once there was a time. He died at 67 for ‘elective’ surgery.

When discussions in Heaven come up who the greatest rock guitarists of all time were, Alvin Lee’s name has to be (at least) in the conversation.

Saw Ten Years After at the now gone Spectrum in Philly in 1973. Hell of a guitar player. He played slide on the Mic stand like nobody I've ever seen.

Immensely appropriate tune for our times!

“Everywhere is
Freaks and hairys
Dykes and fairies
Tell me where is sanity?”

I saw them live at the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland. Must have been August, 1971.

Here I sit, 45 Years After.

Saw them at the Filmore in SF .... I think.

I’ve got water on the brain
My mind is like a drain
Here I go again
Over the hill

> "...Tell me where is sanity?..."

Maybe just as well he passed, sad and too early as it was.

You can't sing that lyric in public any more, without the snowflakes getting all upset and shutting you down.

For guitar players, one of the all-time great chord sequences to jam to.

Em G Am C B7 Em

Lather rinse repeat.

Some pre-PC lyrics, quite prescient:

Everywhere there’s
Freaks and Hares
Dykes and fairies
Tell me where is sanity?

One of the greatest guitar licks evah + those lyrics + the scorching irony in the refrain....
You can’t change the world as it is. Good and evil are ever thus, and you can’t change them. You can only decide which side you’re on.

Take that, social justice warriors!!

I did not realize this little bit of trivia until just recently:

From Wikipedia.

"They again changed their name, to Ten Years After – in honour of Elvis Presley, an idol of Lee's. (This was ten years after Presley's successful year, 1956)."

Ahhh, Alvin Lee - just watched his iconic "I'm Goin' Home" video from Woodstock.
Man, they don't make em' like that any more.
