Yes, 160 acres is a quarter section. I haven’t heard of different names for N/S vs. E/W roads, but we may have them in the US too. Roads get numbered and/or named, and you have to figure out where you are alphabetically or numerically.
Or you can just be like this ol soldier and have a GPS in your head heh.
The traffic is terrible! Which means that people are going back and forth to jobs all over the city. Come on down!
You could be insured under your wife’s employer provided policy, which would make it more affordable.
I like to try to avoid the really big areas. I haven’t been there since about 96 when a buddy got married near there. I honestly don’t remember much about Houston except we did hit the space center out in the sticks.
Or just pay as you go? heh
Well, not that I would know, but I suspect if you’ve been to the sandbox in body armor, then Texas would be a cool breeze in civies.
And of course there’s beer and BBQ.
I have been to Alberta deer hunting with my husband in November. The cold almost killed me. I fear that the Houston heat might do you in. But if you want to come to Texas there are many smaller communities where I feel sure you would be happy.
I will admit, real Texans and an Albertan would likely be a good fit, I have to start making some calls tomorrow and see which companies would be willing to sponsor me. My boss may send me down too, but he told me he would have to vouch for me, and told me I’m not allowed to scare Americans with my crazy Canadian views. So, if my conservative views will scare folk, I’ll have to be careful heh.
Isn’t Houston a bit more on the humid side too?
Houston’s climate is ghastly. Their insect life is ghastly. When my husband was out of work for a year after Tulsa crashed, I said, “Not California, not New England, not Houston.”
Oh yes, Houston is humid. Humidity makes a huge difference. The only place that I have been that was worse is New Orleans. One afternoon in NO the temperature was only 90 but the humidity had to be equal and it was truly unbearable.
And every place is air conditioned, so you will defiantly want an inside job!
Isnt Houston a bit more on the humid side too?
Have you ever been in a steam sauna?
In a suit and tie?
That’s what Houston is like. I’ve lived here for several decades and I am still not acclimated to the humidity.
Now, if you can afford to work just two months/year....April and October....Houston is a GREAT place to be, those two months :D
Arizona is a right to work state (unions are weak). Very gun friendly. Unfortunately only the big cities (Tucson and Phoenix area) are booming. Also, to be a self employed electrician you should be licensed. Do that through Arizona Register of Contractors. New in the area, you might starve a little while waiting to build a reputation and customer base. However, there are opportunities at the universities, utility companies and stuff like that...Retirement and benefits. You might need a green card to start.
When I was in Canada I heard they had fired a bunch of government employees, were actually cutting spending back,
Texas is dragging the entire North America across the finish line.
Love it...hubby says similar. He’s not bothered by the climate, like I am.
I wonder if people from N.O. think that we have a dry heat ;-)
