Have You Lost Friends Over This Election?
Self | 08-25-2016 | Captain Peter Blood

This morning as I was out running errands I happen to tune into The Mike Gallagher Show and his topic was have you lost friends in this election, Liberal friends, etc. because of your support for Donald Trump.

Gallagher related that he had, and it was a person formally who supported Trump but now will just sit at home and not vote at all regardless of the dangers of a Hillary Presidency.

Well that hit home for me. Last night I had had enough of my Facebook account and closed it. I have a number of friends on there that regardless of the corruption being exposed will not listen to any cogent or logical reasoning on not voting for her.

I have debated, offered documentation and facts to those I have engaged and yet nothing seems to deter these people and on top of that I am called names and accused if all manner of things not true.

I have always tried to be careful and deliberate on whom I would friend on Facebook, but of course you have people you have known since grade school or college you have kept in touch with and now you find out what they think and what you think politically are 180 degrees off.

The last straw was last night with a couple of people who on the surface would seem to know better and yet they are willing to settle for a criminal and have little interest in getting to the truth. That was it for me and I promptly closed my account.

Depending on the election results I may or may not revisit Facebook on November 9th.

I am to the point that if Trump does not win I am not sure whether I will ever vote again. I am not sure there will be another Republican candidate that can or will ever win again after four to eight years on more Democrats, Will there be anything left to really salvage after all the damage that will be done????

Only God knows and I pray almost everyday for this country and it's future.

Just this week I and a few other friends defriended a person I have been close to for over forty years. I was best man at his first wedding and he was always a conservative until his second marriage about five years ago. He wife believes Obama and Clinton walk on water. He was taken to attacking his conservative friends during this election and now most non family members who were his old friends have defriended him. I hated doing it but he became intolerable in his comments. I am sure his first wife that passed away is rolling in her grave.

I am, however, VERY careful what I say at church.

This reminds me of East Germany in the 1970s-80s. The whole system was built around trying to control people’s words and thoughts through quiet intimidation and fear. People were afraid to speak up for fear of being ostracized, losing positions and tenure, having their families and children discriminated against.

Better not speak up against the Party conventional wisdom - or else risk losing your promotion or maybe your kid won’t get into that top school.

Psychological terrorism to keep the prolls in line while the Party leaders lived in luxury.

Yes ... but I’m now not sure they were friends. If you have someone sworn to destroy your country you would not be friends with that person, you would treat them as an enemy of the state. Anybody voting for Hillary is just such an “enemy” ... they are not now, and probably never were “friends.”

I’ve lost many, but closing my Facebook account is giving them exactly what they want, which is for me to “Shut Up”.

Not gonna do it...

...have you lost friends in this election, Liberal friends, etc.

That boat sailed way back in 2009.

And they weren't real friends in the first place.

Liberals have too damned many faces to be true friends...politics be damned.

Good riddance to 'em...I got tired of being labeled a racist every time I questioned one of obama's policies.

Liberals are a waste of oxygen.

Mark Levin. He reminds of a dog I had once: Actually I Had two dogs. One I raised from a puppy and one I picked up as a stray. The one I raised as a puppy got in a fight with another dog and the stray attacked my first dog in the middle of the fight. My first dog had a permanent injury after that and I wish I had put that stray dog down instead of finding him a new home. Trump reminds me of my first dog and Hillary is the one he got in a fight with. Mark Levin is like that stray.

I try every once in a while to see if he is making any sense now, but it was not even a three minutes yesterday as he started ragging about Trump’s softening of his immigration rhetoric. I am seriously pissed at Mark Levin and getting ready to swear an oath against him.

Spain? Why not some of the usual suspects....Costa Rica, etc.? Not sure I’d be comfortable living under the EU.

A very good comment. I am in my 50s and I have never seen so much bitterness on either side. I would say there is a gradual coiling of the spring effect on both sides. Both are unwilling to accept defeat.

On the leftist side I am not sure what is driving them. They have been in power for 7.8 years and yet they are very unhappy. They really do hate Trump and yet one cannot get a coherent answer as to why. It has caused a separation for me and my wife, we just cannot connect with those folks, well meaning as they might be.

On the right hand side it is a genuine fear of being made a an oppressed minority in their own land. Many of the folks on the right are ready to fight, if they could find a flag to rally around. These are the same folks who are law abiding, but they are on the cusp of an inner rebellion.

It seems to me we are closer to an effective civil war than in any time in my life. A lot of the attitudes read like the 1859/1860 political discourse.

The home near Alicante was paid for in cash - 1500 a month clear is a fortune plus I still do a little consulting work on the side. I fill a large grocery cart at CarreFour with great food for 30€ - that lasts us a month. A very nice night out with dinner and outstanding wine is around 25.00 $USD - for two. I love Spain

As an aside, I’ve noticed political content conspicuously missing from LinkedIn.

Over the past year I've received several invitations to LinkedIn from people I know. Before clicking anything I checked with them. Each had not sent the invitation.

As a real estate agent I keep my politics out of any discussions with potential clients. But if they bring it up, I'll ask if it really matters. If it does, they'll get the truth.

...I had considered Costa Rica or Australia...

Costa Rica has no extradition treaty with the U.S., last I heard. Good place to flee from the regime.

And I can accept if someone doesn’t like Trump.

I didn't LIKE Nixon, but I voted for him for the same reason I'll vote for Trump: The alternative in unthinkable.

Seriously, I’ve been looking closely at this place if hitlery wins. . .the United States will no longer be a constitutional republic. Not hype. True, especially after she packs the Supreme Court.

But they simply fail to realize it in most cases, and would scratch their heads in wonderment if they were told that they are sworn to destroy your country.
