No, Starbucks isn't cheating customers by adding ice to drinks

It seems that Starbucks (SBUX) can put as much ice as it wants in your beverage.

A judge in California dismissed a case that accused the coffee chain of under-filling its iced drinks, saying the plaintiff had "not alleged any viable claims" against the company.

"If children have figured out that including ice in a cold beverage decreases the amount of liquid they will receive, the Court has no difficulty concluding that a reasonable consumer would not be deceived into thinking that when they order an iced tea, that the drink they receive will include both ice and tea and that for a given size cup, some portion of the drink will be ice rather than whatever liquid beverage the consumer ordered," wrote Percy Anderson, the U.S. District Judge presiding over the case in his dismissal of the lawsuit last Friday.

“...if you let your beer get warm, you’re drinking it too slow. LOL”

LOL, agreed! That’s why those little shorty 7 oz. beers are good when it is super hot.

Over the weekend I had a few draft beers, none seemed cold enough for me.

I remember a soda shop across the street from the school that filled all soda cups full of ice. You were lucky to get three sips of soda before all you had left was a cup of ice. I once asked her not to put so much ice in it and you would have thought I had insulted her!

Ice is cheap. Oh, their milk shakes and malts were small and mostly milk and thin.

I got a large malt from a different burger place and it felt “wrong”. They had put a small amount of ice cream in the bottom and filled the rest with whipped topping.

There are more ways to cheat a customer than you know of!

Ah...
But they ARE cheating customers with their wildly variable amount of foam on hot drinks. As much as a quarter the depth on a 20oz drink. At the fat end.
More often than not.

I find that the pop is usually cold enough for me straight from the fountain, so ice is unnecessary.

North Midwest or Canadian, Eh?

This is stupid in the extreme.starbucks is all about the order. If you want light ice, ask for light ice. The lawyers involved in this should have to pay all legal fees.

You can get free refills at starbucks for tea and coffee as well if you use one of their cards. I do all the time. Whe I’m out on my motorcycle, I’ll sometimes hit 3 different starbucks during the trip.

I don’t go to Starbucks, but the pace I do go to lets me tell them how far to fill and then add a few cubes to suit my taste. Starbuck probably does the same except in areas where you get a specific measured dose, in which case less ice shouldn’t be a problem.

Most of Europe too. I had to get used to the lack of ice in most drinks. Maybe 5-7 pieces floating on top. I get strange looks when I ask for extra ice.

“You can get free refills at starbucks for tea and coffee as well if you use one of their cards.”

Is that a credit card, a gift card, or just one of those “preferred customer” cards like you get for the supermarket?

I’m not the world’s biggest starbucks fan, but I’m glad, gosh darn glad, that they invaded all the rest stops, they are about one million times better than the totally crappy coffee you used to get at those places.

Hubby likes them a good deal, he might really do what you say, and he rides a motorcycle too!

5-7 pieces?? And you want MORE?

Seriously, I know what you mean. . They are shocked and find it so hard to believe that anyone would want so much ice. I’ve had warm, room-temperature OJ served, even in International airports! It’s the same with air-conditioning. Maybe we’re spoilt. If so, so be it.

Well their customer card is reloadable, so it is kind of hybrid.
