'Manbang' is North Korea's Netflix

North Korea announced last week that it’s launching Manbang (“Mon-bahng”), what it’s calling a “Netflix style video-on-demand.” Manbang literally translates to “everywhere” in Korean, and North Korea hopes the device will be ubiquitous.

(snip)

According to NKnews.org, the set-top box has two primary features: replaying documentary films about Kim Jong Un and his leadership and providing language-learning resources — for Russian and English. Users can search for programs by typing the title or browsing through categories, which may be the only feature that it shares with Netflix

I'll just throw this out there and see what comes in for commentary. It's a slow Monday. :-)

LOL, so they can learn English or Russian on TV? Sounds great until there is a knock on the door and you are asked; “Are you planning to leave NK?”

Yes, it will be everywhere for the 13 people with electricity in North Korea.

“which movie featuring a fat slob in flabby clothes pointing at stuff do we want to watch tonight?”

I was wondering which circle of hell only has one cable channel that plays Kim Jong Un leadership documentaries on endless repeat.

Even Kim himself might get tired of that one, though it would take a few weeks...

the 13 people with electricity

Yeah, that was my other thought. They have nothing to eat, I doubt "What's on the Tube tonite?" is really on their minds.

BO might take a page out of Kim's playbook. A cable channel that unquestioningly plays his speeches on a never-ending loop would be right up his alley.

Or is that CNN? Sometimes it's hard to tell.

Alright! The several hundred people with access to the internet will now be able to watch great patriotic musicals of the past!

“BO might take a page out of Kim’s playbook. “

Wasn’t there some channel on satellite and/or cable that played his speeches round the clock during the 2008 POTUS campaign? I don’t mean the news orgs that were joined at the hip with Ohaha ... I mean a literal channel that the brainwashed could tune into and admire their future Dear Leader.

LOL.

From what I’ve heard, all abodes are fitted with a radio that churns out propaganda 24/7. Dials can only be turned down to low.....but never off.

Manbang (“Mon-bahng”)

This brings to mind a Pakistani I once knew, last name was Butt. He was forever saying "It's pronunciated Boot, dammeet, BOOT!!!"

You made me curious, so I googled it. His campaign bought a channel on the dish network.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/ben-smith/2008/10/the-obama-channel-012680

Channel 073-00 on the Dish Network is now labeled OBAMA. ("What is up with Sen. Obama having his own channel?" asks a St. Louis reader.) The channel plays his two-minute ad laying out his economic plan on a loop, over and over.

BO, on a two minute loop, over and over again? That's one of Hell's INNER circles, AFAIC.

Soon to be Barney Frank’s favorite video-on-demand source.
