Where Texas Would Rank in Olympic Medal Count if it Was its own Country

If Texas was its own country - which, let's be honest, to many of us, it is - it would rank eighth in the 2016 Olympics medal count with 41 total medals.

That means the Lone Star State by itself has more medals than all of Canada (22). Countries like Australia (29), Italy (28) and Spain (17) don't want to get into any kind of medal-counting contest with Texas, either. Oh, and host country Brazil (19)? Thanks for all your medals.

The 26 gold medals from athletes with Texas ties would rank third, only behind the United States (46) and Great Britain (27).

Canada will probably kick your butt in the winter games.

Great job by Texas in Rio though. Congratulations!

Texas was a nation once and if the United States fails the law of the land known as The Constitution of the United States, we will again with great regret become a nation again. We will be a great nation and the beacon of freedom, enterprise, the chance to gain or fail, prosper or start over that the United States once was.

The point is if it comes to this sad end we will not leave the United States but they have left Texas. We are Texas and that is just the way it is, get used to it.

Texas will not need a new national constitution. The Constitution of the United States will do quite well but we will follow it as written.

I pray this will not happen, but I fear it will.

How many would California have?

Also I’d like to see a breakout by US University attended, that would include a lot of athletes competing for other countries.

Yeah, if a state can claim an Olympian based on birthplace, one time residence, current residence, high school, or college...there can be some Olympians that can be claimed by 2 or 3 states.

Note the Pac-10 had the top 3 (Stanford, Cal, USC). So at least UF was the best non Pac-10 school.

Trivia question: What American served as governor of two different states?

Hint: His name was a call-sign in longest distance radio contact ever with humans at either end.

True, the Trojans came in third this time, though they’ve won the most all-time. The top three were in California though!

Marion Robert Morrison.

He wasn't a governor, but he was in a movie where Richard Boone portrayed the guy who was governor of two states.
