Great story behind this song:

Richard Carpenter happened to hear a commercial while he was in California, from Crocker Bank. It was called The Wedding. Here it is:

His musicians ear readily identified that this song could be huge, and that it was probably written by Paul Williams. He reached out to Paul. Paul DID write the song. The rest is history.

“Gypsy” a double album by the group of the same name, with songs such as this:

I have that album. Good stuff! Haven't listened to it in years, need to give it a spin again.

There is a roadhouse-bar/restaurant/pool hall here in the midst of nowhere owned by an old hippie redneck-like most of us around here-who is a classic rock collector like no one I’ve ever seen-the jukebox has every rock and country tune from 1964 to the present, I swear. The place is trashy and dilapidated, dimly lit-a typical redneck & biker bar-the clientele cowboys, bikers and old hippies, the food healthy and fresh but not great, the beer and wine is cold, and all cheap-but it is worth going there just to drop a few bucks in the jukebox, pick your old favorites and jam-usually other customers will jam with you-it is a great place...

Any of The Moody Blues hits. They were at their peak as the most popular rock and roll band of that era. Still my favorite band after 50 years. I am traveling to Las Vegas in October to see them for the first time in concert at the Venetian Hotel and Casino venue. I'm stoked.

Here are some of my favorites:

The Voice

Your Wildest Dreams

I Know You’re Out There Somewhere

The Other Side Of Life

I’m Just A Singer In A Rock and Roll Band

The Story In Your Eyes

Lovely To See You

Legends Of A Mind

Voices In The Sky

Question

Ride My SeeSaw

Isn’t Life Strange

Never Comes The Day

New Horizons

You and Me

Gemini Dream

Tuesday Afternoon

Nights In White Satin

If we're going to talk about the 70's as a decade and not just songs from 1970, I'd have to agree ...

The Moody Blues ruled the 70's ... and, to me, still do.

What a grouch!

1970 was a great year for music. I was just hearing "Hitchin' A Ride" by Vanity Fare this morning.

Other great songs from that year include "That's Where I Went Wrong" by the Poppy Family, "Sunday Morning Coming Down" by Johnny Cash, and "Layla" by Derek & Dominos.

Try to buy the {British release on Polydor] of Jimi’s last concert: Live at the Isle of Wight.

It will be expensive if you can find it but it will blow you away.

I gots mine but you cain’t have it for any amount of dinero! I’m passing it on to my grandchildren. It’s been played -maybe- 10 times on a stylus (marantz TT, marantz equalizer, Altec-Lansing speakers).

That reminds me, if Karen Carpenter had roomed with Mama Cass Elliot in the 70’s, they would both be alive.

Just sayin’.
