Should Caster Semanya be allowed to compete as a woman? Tipped for 800m gold, she has no ovaries...

Caster Semenya, 25, a South African runner, is tipped to win the 800m But the athlete has ignited a debate about gender at the Olympic Games Semenya has testosterone levels three times the normal level in women She has no womb or ovaries but rather internal testes due to abnormality

Of all the stars at Rio, few are as hotly tipped for resounding victory as 800m runner Caster Semenya. Fewer still can match her for controversy.

There are those who say she should not be allowed to compete in the Olympics women’s 800m, which she is almost certain to win. No doubt they would also like to see her stripped of her former victories — gold and silver at the 2009 and 2011 World Championships and silver at the London 2012 Olympics.

It is not accusations of doping that dog the South African, though it does come down to chemistry. The question is whether she is, in fact, a biological woman.

Semenya, 25, has testosterone levels three times the normal level found in women and approaching those of a man. Furthermore, she has no womb or ovaries, and instead, owing to a chromosomal abnormality, internal testes.

I say (in best Daniel Bryan pose): YES...YES...YES!

The only way to get rid of idiocy is to EXPOSE it!
As soon as we hear some of the top female athletes of the day whining about how they were ROBBED by a man, the issue will be disinfected with sunlight.

I saw both of those “women” run. “That’s a man, baby” applied to both.

That said, I don’t know how the rules can legalistically handle what the eye can easily see.

Gotta wonder if any woman will ever win a gold medal again? Maybe starting with the next Olympics?

Next Olympics? After this Olympics I wonder if there will be another one.

I was shocked myself when I came upon the thread and didn't see it posted yet. Just trying to do my bit, upholding the standards, and all that.

From what I understand is that the IOC doesn’t allow that kind of chromosomal testing, and hasn’t, since the late 1990s?

So, without that, what then?

“but a genuine biologically deviate man-girl. What are you gonna do?”

Tell Caster Semanya not to compete because it isn’t fair to biological women. Tough.

“I think the fundamental issue is this: We have a separate category for women because without it, no women would even make the Olympic Games (with the exception of equestrian). Most of the women’s world records, even doped, lie outside the top 5000 times run by men. Radcliffe’s marathon WR, for instance, is beaten by between 250 and 300 men per year. Without a women’s category, elite sport would be exclusively male.”

http://sportsscientists.com/2016/07/caster-semenya-debate/

That article is more sympathetic than I am, but there is no reason to have women’s sports if men can compete - and the amount of testosterone in Semanya’s body gives him too much of an advantage.

The IOC made the rule. With enough pressure the IOC can change the rule.

I saw that THING 'Wambui' run tonight.

The ones who are "things" are the ones who've had a chopitoffame or an addadicktome and hormone treatments to become fake females or males. This unfortunate individual has a birth defect and at least deserves some compassion. The xx/xy test should clear it up.

"... The IOC made the rule. With enough pressure the IOC can change the rule."

Okay, surely that's true.

But this is the IOC who evidently can't even oversee a square boxing match. And with the Russian/Chinese doping scandals, where do you think that the issue of a gender-abnormative South African track star rates on the IOC's list of priorities?

If there's a process to petition the IOC about this, by all means, go ahead.

I can't comment on the person in question but I have read many articles about women who were born hermaphrodites and neither they or their parents knew. They had normal vaginas and even developed breast. The shock would come when they would never menstruate and they would go to a doctor and the doctor would deliver the news.

Here is an article you must read. It will give you an idea of where I'm coming from.

Woman who was genetically a man gives birth to TWINS after doctors GREW her a womb

It’s in your face 24/7 with these perverts. I predict next olympics some “female” participants (maybe all) will have full beards.

OMG, this is the “woman” I saw win the other night and thought, “that’s a MAN, baby!”

My gut was right! Something’s not right here!

(BTW if this is “chromosomal”, then isn’t that the TRUE definition of which sex?)

My compromise.

He can run against all the other trannies and genetically abnormals at the olympics.

Perfect compromise. I would prefer a separate Olympics for them. And if they can successfully make a go of it, good for them. I won’t be watching, though.

The Olympics today is set up to allow men to compete against men and women to compete against women. IMO, these [unfortunate] creatures are neither and should not be allowed to compete against men or women.
