Still trying to figure out his purpose? Maybe he wanted to play backgammon with them?

I would not call those machine guns. I guess they could be full auto rifles. We will never hear the truth.

I wonder if he has a different name as well, like Achmed, or something like that?

We have to take the reporter’s word that these black rifles are “machine guns”. I didn’t see grenades in the picture.

Elgin is about 40 miles west of downtown Chicago, Addison about 20 or so as the crow flies. I live smack dab between them.

A few listings for Juan Mexicano in Addison, IL!

I was surprised?

Walking through San Francisco’s Chinatown, a tourist from the Midwest was enjoying the artistry of all the Chinese restaurants, shops, signs and banners when he turned a corner and saw a building with the sign “Moishe Plotnik’s Laundry.” “Moishe Plotnik?” he wondered. “How does that belong in Chinatown?”

He walked into the shop and saw a fairly standard looking drycleaner, although he could see that the proprietors were clearly aware of the uniqueness of the store name as there were baseball hats, T-shirts and coffee mugs emblazoned with the logo “Moishe Plotnik’s Chinese Laundry.” The tourist selected a coffee cup as a conversation piece to take back to his office. Behind the counter was a smiling old Chinese gentleman who thanked him for his purchase. The tourist asked, “Can you explain how this place got a name like ‘Moishe Plotnik’s Laundry?’

The old man answered, “Ah...Evleebody ask me that. It name of owner.”

Looking around, the tourist asked, “Is he here?”

“It me,” replies the old man.

“Really? You’re Chinese. How did you ever get a name like Moishe Plotnik?”

“Is simple”, said the old man. Many, many year ago I come to this country. I standing in line at ‘Documentation Center of Immigration.’ Man in front of me was Jewish man from Poland. Lady at counter look at him and say, “What your name?”

He say, “Moishe Plotnik.”

Then she look at me and say, “What your name?”

I say, “Sam Ting.”

Several departments in the task force assisted, including those of Addison, Chicago, Hoffman Estates, New Lenox, Olympia Fields, Streamwood, Lombard, DuPage County and Will County.

I'm inferring from that that "Elgin" is in Illinois.

Why can't posters realize that simply saying "Elgin" could be anywhere?
Not even necessarily in the U.S.

Stupid newspaper format. Doesn’t even tell you what state it is located in.

But then again, it’s Illinois where incompetence is the norm.

You are probably right, but as the 4th estate has demonstrated serially, if a journalist sees an AR it is described as a Kalashnikov machine gun capable of firing hundreds of cinderblock-penetrating rounds per second.\

But for those of us who take the language (and ourselves) seriously:
Machine gun
A machine gun is a fully automatic mounted or portable firearm, usually designed to fire bullets in quick succession from an ammunition belt or magazine, typically at a rate of several hundred rounds per minute. Machine guns are generally categorized as submachine guns, machine guns, or autocannons. Submachine guns are hand-held small portable automatic weapons for personal defense or short-range combat firing pistol-caliber rounds. A machine gun is often portable to a certain degree, but is generally used when attached to a mount or fired from the ground on a bipod, and generally fires a rifle cartridge. Light machine guns are small enough to be fired and are hand-held like a rifle, but are more effective when fired from a prone position. The difference between machine guns and autocannons is based on caliber, with autocannons using calibers larger than 16 mm. Another factor is whether the gun fires conventional rounds or explosive rounds. Guns firing large-caliber explosive rounds are generally considered either autocannons or automatic grenade launchers. In contrast to submachine guns and autocannons, machine guns tend to share the characteristic of a very high ratio of barrel length to caliber; indeed, a true machine gun is essentially a fully automatic rifle, and often the primary criterion for a machine gun as opposed to an automatic rifle is the presence of a quick-change barrel or other cooling system.
