60 years ago John Kenneth Galbraith wrote, The Affluent Society, in which he argued that individuals who squandered money on frivolities like chrome and fins on cars demonstrated they should not be entrusted with making those decisions. He wanted the elites to make those decisions and he wanted laws passed to enforce those decisions so that money would not go into frivolous gadgets on cars but rather would be prudently allocated to schools and hospitals, for example. Today we have Elizabeth Warren advising us that we did not build that and presumably we do not have the right to evaluate it.
Curiously, when the subject turns to sex the tables are turned, conservatives suddenly want to disassociate sex with money and liberals don't want any restrictions of any kind on sex. Statists would let us set the value of a woman's virtue according to what the market will bear (cheap pun shamelessly intended). We conservatives are doomed to lose this battle, this we know or else prostitution would not be the oldest profession but we carry on nevertheless daily losing ground in this battle.
In fact, if the connection between money and sex is explicit and conditional, we make it a crime in America. If one marries for sex and does so by entering into a prenuptial agreement, we think that's just fine. So if a 22-year-old dates a 56-year-old we presume that she is doing so for money and he is doing so for sex but we cannot find that one is explicitly conditioned on the other so there is no criminal act involved-just a lot of gossip and snickering. If this identical transaction happened on a street corner and money changed hands in the open, the police would come down in righteous indignation.
In Germany I was astonished to learn (through word-of-mouth and not from personal experience-I hasten to add) that prostitution here is quite legal under regulated circumstances. In fact the local Poof here is owned by a family whose family name is prominently displayed on the outer wall of the freestanding building: "ASS." The rectory of the local church, I am reliably informed by a hobby historian of the immediate postwar era here, was taken over by American officers and turned into a bordello. The vicarage has since recovered its reputation although the local priest is generally favored because he notoriously maintains a mistress which the parishioners find reassuring because they know he will leave the little boys alone.
I wonder if Elizabeth Warren would tell the ASS family that they didn't build that? Or would she reverse her Marxism and join the ranks of the neo-Marxists of The Frankfurt School and advocate "free" love? I wonder if conservatives will continue to fight their losing battle against human nature?

Don't know the circumstances but I'm always sad to see a loyal wife dumped overboard for a younger woman. Hopefully that was not the case here and the woman gave him due cause to do what he did.
