One woman died and another was severely injured after a tiger attacked them when they exited their vehicle while at the Beijing Badaling Wildlife World this weekend, according to Yanqing County government.
The incident, caught in part on surveillance video, took place on Saturday at an outdoor, drive-through animal park in China, where visitors can drive around in their cars and view exotic animals as if on a safari. The tragedy occurred when one woman exited her vehicle while in the Siberian tiger enclosure part of the animal park.
Surveillance footage shows a woman exiting the passenger side of the vehicle, walking over to the driver's side, and then standing outside of the vehicle while she seems to speak with someone inside the car. Suddenly a tiger pounces on her, dragging the woman away from the vehicle and off camera.
Two more people then jump out of the car, running after the woman and tiger, disappearing off camera.
The woman who died was a 57-year-old mother who was trying to save her daughter from the tiger, according to the South China Morning Post. The daughter, in her 30s, who is reportedly the one seen being dragged away by the tiger in the surveillance video, was severely injured, the paper reported.

MNDude, I can see that against smaller animals, but...if you are a 150 lb person against a 500 lb bundle of highly conditioned animal muscle, unless you have a weapon, you are dead meat! Heck, you would be dead meat against a 150 lb leopard. Or even a 75 lb really angry chimp.
Even a really angry 12 lb cat can be more than enough for one of us soft humans.
Why would anyone exit a vehicle to argue with someone within arm’s reach inside the vehicle?
Might want to dial up that situational awareness just a click or two.
No, I read it in a book or article, IIRC, it was some reporter who convinced some poachers to take him along, and they told him the story after the fact. I always wondered about it, but I have no doubt.

Chinese are not the squishy environmentalists that we in the West are. They understand tigers are wild animals. They also don't feel the need to issue meaningless cliches about "being sorry" etc... The Chinese response to this case is - why did she act so stupidly? Also, it was widely reported that every person entering the park signs a disclaimer, and also specifically confirms they will not get out of their cars or open windows.
Stupid people everywhere do things like this-there have been people mauled, dragged off, trampled, etc at the wildlife park and exotic cattle ranches in the next county because someone got out of the car, ignoring the signs every 100 ft. that say do not get out of your vehicle-usually to get really close to an ostrich, a big cat, a herd of buffalo, whatever to get a selfie, or have someone else take a photo. You might as well play Russian roulette, if you like dangerous games...
And that looks like what...a 200-300lb tiger??? Good God...You can't see it on this clip, butI have seen the video this came from, and when you watch it in slow motion, as the paw begins its backwards motion for the forward swipe, you really see the claws.
FWIW, the guy survived with a mangled arm and they shot the tiger, but...No...
No thank you.

In that clip, the group was hunting that tiger. It was terrorizing the local village.
Arm, huh? Looks like the left claw was going for the groin.
Well, that’s the appropriate mind set.
