Sealander camper, yes or no?
http://www.blessthisstuff.com/stuff/vehicles/misc/sealander-amphibious-camper/ ^

It can sleep three reasonably comfortably and it's highly customizable. The only thing that might be a disadvantage is that it's not made for deep ocean or turbulent waves. But I thin it would be good to take a half dozen people into the middle of a large lake or ocean bay and just spend the day relaxing in the sun or diving into the water.

Not too big. I’d stay with a lake. IIRC, it’s made in Germany.

I don’t think that would work very well in hot climates, you’re going to bake in there. It won’t deal well with chop, either. Why wouldn’t you just get a small houseboat or pontoon?

Starting at $24,575, I’d say it might be worth the price.

I wouldn’t take it near salt water.

I don’t care for it:

It’s not seaworthy.

Portability would be an asset on the Sealander, compared to something larger like a houseboat.

Have to have air conditioning here in Texas or you’d die in it...interesting, but seems a bit pricey? Maybe not if it replaces a boat and a camper..

You could get an Amphicar to tow it and you wouldn’t have to unhitch it to get it in and out of the water.

Well, if you’re in a very mild climate and putting into very placid water, I suppose it would be OK, but you’re buying a floating camper, not a boat, don’t kid yourself.

“or ocean bay”

This boat wouldn’t last a day on Tampa Bay, let alone the intracoastal. What happens when a storm kicks up? It looks like it costs $20,000...my advice...spend $5,000 on a good used travel trailer and $15,000 on a good used boat that has enough power to get you out of trouble fast.

Seriously...don’t put yourself and your family in this thing.

For very limited situations, it does replace them. Obviously the sealander is only a recreational vehicle for those who don’t intend to do anything at all serious on the water.

Pontoon boats would be comparable in price, but houseboats are a lot more expensive. In addition houseboats need to be placed into the water and kept there, as transporting them around is not really that easy.

You’d be bailing water with the first passing jet ski or speedboat on any popular recreational lake, I suspect. And, such an unusual looking thing in the lake would attract plenty of lookie-loos, so you’re not going to get much relief from the wakes.

Don’t get it!...
Get a real boat you can tow 20-22 ft that can sleep 3-4 comfortably....you can still sleep on it on land like a camper....
Any chop, any wave action you are doomed....plus it is only powered by a trolling motor....get out on a busy lake or bay (god forbid)and you will die....well...maybe wish you had...

“For very limited situations”

I have lived around the water (Tampa Bay) for over 24 years. One thing every boater and camper learns is not to buy something like this for very limited situations...that quickly turns into.. “never using it and selling it for a huge loss”

Why bother? It doesn’t look as if you could be safe in more than 2-3 feet of water.

Much cheaper, bigger and more stable:
