Better to let your enemy betray you in public rather than behind closed doors. Trump understood all along that this was likely, and he wisely let Cruz destroy his career on national T.V.
This is the end of a year long chess match between Trump and Cruz. Trump came out on the attack right from the start. Cruz played stalling tactics for the first half and when he saw that wasn’t working, he tried to counter attack. But his attacks were weak and he was always on the defensive. Trump had him cornered tonight. The two outcomes for Trump were win, win or possibly win, stalemate. Cruz’s options were lose, stalemate. He took the loss, even though he probably didn’t realize it.
I’m sure it will pain Rush to offer any critical analysis of his boy’s failure to endorse Trump. Rush will do what he does best in recent months when he doesn’t wish to offer any timely commentary...he’ll simply ignore it.
I’m sure Rush will spend tomorrow talking about everything but Cruz’s little stunt tonight.
I’m happy Trump let him speake and that he broke the pledge... that’s the last I’ll ever have to endure of him.
Was his admonition to vote the entire ticket “up and down” a grudging, backhanded endorsement?
