Wasn't that from Bob Newhart's second series, the one set in a Vermont hotel? So funny.
The newer “Bob Newhart Show”, which also had the funniest and most creative show-ending segment in TV history.

Oops! I meant 3) Bonanza.
And while we are at it, I really loved The Mentalist and never missed an episode. I still miss Tim Kang as Kimball Cho. One of the most underrated performances on tv. I also very much miss Everybody Loves Raymond.
I'm agreeing with many of the other posts as to which series were most memorable. The Sopranos is also high on my list, as is Carol Burnett and Johnny Carson.
I think that recently, when we changed over to the multi-media era with hundreds of channels and cable vs network and digital devices vs family tv set, we have also diluted the impact of the television medium. It is exponentially much harder to produce a show that many or most people have tuned into the night before and are eager to discuss the next day.
I don't remember how it ended, even though I watched it often. Clue me in?

Newhart woke up next to his wife from the FIRST Newhart series, and told her he just had this bizarre dream that involved running a New England inn.
Taxi...pretty darn funny.
We used to call his character Cho Friday. Greatest deadpan cop since Jack Webb's Joe Friday.
The Breaking Bad episode Ozymandias in which Hank dies and the whole storyline just explodes is the greatest hour in TV (if not Hollywood) history.
Burns and Allen (the Kleebob sketch is a classic)
For newer stuff, first three seasons of Jeeves and Wooster.
That's the one! We saw it on a VHS tape when living in Kenya. A friend loaned us the tape with the first four episodes while she finished the series.
Several giant mixing bowls of popcorn later we had watched the first four episodes straight through. If we'd had the last three, we'd have watched those too instead of waiting until the next evening.
Person of Interest for the first two years.
I also loved Deadwood. It needed another season.
Justified was very good for three seasons.
The Shield was very good for two or three seasons.
The Corner.
The Wire.
It seems that all of the modern shows have to top themselves every season. Pretty soon the plots get stupid.
Perry Mason was good every week for many years.
