Calexit or Caleavefornia? Brexit lifts Golden State independence campaign

Pro-independence Texans weren’t the only ones energized by the vote by Brexit vote.

The California secession movement has been riding a wave of interest since Thursday’s vote by the United Kingdom to leave the European Union. The campaign has already gained a Brexit-inspired nickname: Calexit

“We have a lot of people sending us messages and a lot of people want to find our online digital version of our independence referendum,” said Louis Marinelli, who heads the Yes California Independence Campaign. “We have a lot of people who have joined our Facebook page, a lot of people who are talking about this issue on Twitter. The #Calexit hashtag for example has begun organically. There’s another one called #Caleavefornia.”

Yes California, which formed in August after the shuttering of Sovereign California, has been gathering support for an initiative aimed at November 2020 that would begin the process of severing California from the union.

What makes the Brexit vote so important is that it shows secession isn’t just a relic of the 19th century, said Mr. Marinelli.

“This is an example of an independence movement occurring in the Western world, a modern-day, 21st century [case] of a political entity seceding from a political union,” he said. “And so now Californians who hear the word ‘secession,’ they don’t have to think of the Civil

Eventually the state would die of it own stupidity.

Pray, as soon as this happens, Kalifornia a separatist state, the San Andres fault ruptures and drops Kalifornia into the Pacific...

There has already been a ‘separatist’ movement ongoing for several years now.

It is called the State of Jefferson movement, and I support it as a bare minimum if we can not get the state to split into its actual existing components: NorCal, the Bay Area (San Fran and the surrounding locales), CentralCal (the Central Valley regions), and SoCal (Centred around Los Angels and primarily Mexican).

Some even argue for six separate parts.

Whatever works best. Just let us have our own voices instead of having to live with what the looney libs in San Fran and Bezerkley keep saddling us with!

“State of Jefferson movement”

Is an attempt to gain political power in Congress and the Electoral collage. We are NOT granting Ca more senators or more House Reps.

If they plan to have no Soc Sec and Medicare like the Texan separatists want to do, it drives all the older folks back to the US, giving a much lower cost of government. It also provides a large supply of lower cost housing for the population as they exit and most sell their residence.

What National Debt? The US Congress contracted to borrow the paper from the private for profit bank. The way I figure it, we own them nothing. They shouldn’t have borrowed it, but I did not sign anything saying I was party to this contract.

Why would it drive older people out of Texas if there is no SS? People in other countries can draw their SS no matter their citizenship. Older people will live there for the lower cost of living, and spend their checks from Uncle Sam there too.

There is absolutely no way that any of us here at FR will be so lucky as to see California leave the Union. I wonder if California is a net recipient or net payer of Federal income tax dollars. Also, I wonder how much welfare per capital the typical Californian gets.

That doesn’t mean that we can’t be supportive of it though, does it?

What about the fact that California has more natural resources than almost any state in the union, not to mention it is the breadbasket of the world and has a thousand miles of prime coastline.

I simply cannot believe how many Freepers are silly enough to believe that if only California were gone, all of the country's problems would be solved. Guess what, people: your state is overwhelmed with left-wing nutbags, too. Those of you who live in what are considered conservative states should try to remember that your conservative majority probably doesn't exceed 55%, if that, which means that a few years of immigration or just brainwashing in the public schools and BAM, your state is now a left-wing crap hole like California. If you'll give up the fight for California, you'll give it up for the whole country.

Some issues that need addressed, then I'm all for it.

You are aware you're perilously short on electricity and fresh water, right? Guess you'll have to work that out with your neighbors.

Military bases remain the property of USA, of course. We'll take the precaution of stringing another row (or two) of razor wire and generally beefing up security, since outside the wire is now enemy territory.

While we're in the wire-stringing mood, we're gonna need a fence on CA's eastern and northern borders. The southern end? You work that out with Mexico.

Don't know if there is still a US Mint in San Francisco, but if so it goes away immediately. Can't let foreigners make US currency, of course.

Your debt is yours now, don't ask us for a bailout.

And you can buy your own bullet train if you still want one.

We don't want to split up families, so Calexicans (or whatever you call yourselves now) can visit the US with a valid short-term visa.

Working or establishing residency? Green cards might be available someday, if we ever decide we need you. Don't hold your breath.

Oh, and BTW, If you overstay your visa, you will be deported immediately, and future visa requests denied.

As they said in Ghostbusters, I love this plan, I’m excited to be a part of it! They want to go, and most of the rest of us would be happy to see them go.

Californication.

Good riddance!

No CA means no more dems win the presidency.

The electoral math would be hard against them :-)
