Would the Gipper Endorse the Donald?
TownHall ^ | 6/29/2016 | Roger Stone

Would Ronald Reagan endorse presumptive Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump? Former Congressman Mickey Edwards, an early Reagan supporter, thinks not. I think, on the basis of all available information, that Mickey Edwards, good fellow that he is – is wrong. President Reagan would have endorsed Presidential Candidate Trump. Here’s why.

Reagan, in whose 1976, 1980 and 1984 campaigns I worked, like most party conservatives often sucked it up and supported Republicans he didn’t see eye-to-eye with. Ironically conservatives begrudgingly supported elitist establishment candidates like McCain and Romney in sharp contrast to establishment Republicans like Nelson Rockefeller, William Scranton and yes, Mitt Romney’s father Michigan Governor George Romney had no problem bailing out on Barry Goldwater in 1964.

In the case of Mitt’s stunning betrayal of Trump who endorsed and recorded multiple robo-calls for Romney it is clear that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.

If Mr. Reagan was alive today, yes he would.

No question.

I see the anti-Trumpsters are trying to use the nostalgia of the Reagan era to somehow discredit The Donald.

These are MUCH different times and far more dire circumstances than in the 1980’s.

Imperfect as he is, Trump’s number one issue is sovereignty. And he is the only one left in the race who understands the issue and cares about it.

He is like granite on that issue. And faced with withering fire from all quarters, I notice he is toughening and emboldening his stance on everything else as well.

If you care two hoots about national sovereignty, and about the fact that half the country is out of work despite everything that has been said, if you care about that at all then there is only one candidate.

If you care about open criminality in the White House, if you have any memory at all of the constant barrage of deceipt and cover-up flowing out of the Oval Office during the Clinton years, if you care at all about having world-class hypocrites run your country, then there is only one alternative.

If you can’t get behind Trump, then you have chosen criminality; you have accepted that half of American workers are condemned to be permanently sidelined from the economy; you have accepted that decisions about your world and your future are for sale and are to be made by the most venal.

Donald Trump has never said, acted or portrayed anything about Ronald Reagan...
Donald Trump is, until he is elected to fill an elected office of any City, County, State, or Federal Office, is a Business man...

Donald Trump, for 20 some years has always said that if the Country got so bad, he would probably run for President...

Donald Trump, until he entered this campaign, has never been called a ‘racist’...

Donald Trump, has knocked out 16 candidates, ‘under budget and ahead of schedule’...

Donald Trump, has brought in more voters in both parties than in the history of either party...

Donald Trump, the only ‘self funding’ candidate to ever win the presumptive nominee position...

Donald Trump, the only one to come out with plans before he was ever elected at the convention of running for POTUS...

Donald Trump, the only one to hold 16 vetted debates as a candidate and won them all, even one where he was absent because he was raising money for the Vets and Wounded Warriors...

And your question was what again???????????????????

Still if the great communicator was alive today, he would support the Donald.

In New York, people say, ‘I’d vote for Hillary’ then they say things like, ‘what she does is political’ or ‘Trump is crazy’ or ‘Trump is a racist’ like its a fact

They never say, ‘Hillary is a traitor’ or ‘she surrounds herself with ISIS connected thugs’, or, ‘she takes millions from enemy states’, or ‘she let her state department people die a violent death in county while serving our country’ or ‘she has never done anything worthwhile for anyone in her entire life’ or ‘every job she’s ever done has been a complete failure’

Sigh

Never say never. Barry Goldwater was once the hero and light of Hillary Rodham’s life, back before she was even old enough to vote, as she was one of the “Goldwater Girls”. Hugh Rodham was pretty much a Taft kind of Republican, which makes a little more sense, when his much misunderstood daughter went off to college, she became a totally radical SDS type, embracing all forms of protest and urban guerrilla tactics.

Bigger reversals have happened in living memory.

This is really a dumb argument, nobody really knows what Reagan would think about Trump being the nominee...

The case can be made for both POV’s...

My guess is he would support Trump because of who he is running against...like many other conservatives...

JMHO...

I agree 100%. I didn’t mean to make it seem otherwise.

And RR wouldn’t sit out this upcoming convention either - he’d probably be speaking at it.

Who claims to be able to speak for the dead?

People claiming to channel Ron Reagan are getting tiresome.

Not only is Trump the only one in the race today to deal with issues of national sovereignty, he was the only candidate in the GOP primaries to even raise the issue. Trump has expressed many views that I disagree with over the years, but to me national sovereignty and enforcement of immigration laws are more important than all other concerns. There's no sense worrying about the tax code or social issues if you don't even have a country.
