Interior Secretary Sally Jewell told attendees at an event on Hispanic-American entrepreneurship on Tuesday that if it were not for legal and illegal immigration into the United States “we would not eat.”
Jewell said that the country is still trying to address the rights of farm workers, including the role immigration plays.
“I’d say the challenges of immigration reform are a good example,” she said. “If we did not have immigration to this country we would not eat. Whether it’s documented or undocumented, we would not eat,” Jewell said at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. …

Okay, instead of paying 1 dollar for a head of lettuce I will pay a dollar and a half so American Citizens harvest the lettuce.
Market forces work. The pay for farm labor is low because of the influx of illegal aliens. If they were not here the price of labor would go up to meet the demand for their work. I would pay more for my lettuce. It is worth the price.

Also: Our lawns and gardens would be in a total mess! And the construction industry would grind to a halt! There would be no babysitters for our babies!
More like: A head of lettuce might cost 2 cents more; the cost of building a house would increase 2%; the cost of babysitters / housekeepers would increase somewhat.
BUT unemployment would drop precipitously.

Yes, we would eat quite well. And our schools and hospitals would not overloaded, our prisons would not be overflowing, diseases making a comeback would once again be eradicated, our gang problem would immediately be at least halved, crime rate would drop precipitously, wages would rise, with a slight concomitant price increase in certain things, MORE than offset by tax savings for the innumerable expensive and ineffective hand-out programs.
Funny how so many, from the captains of industry to the independent entrepreneurs, just LOVE market economics...until it turns against them in the form of labor costs.
