Sounds like a good way to restart The Troubles. I don’t think Britain would be interested in that headache again.

These countries that want to join or remain in the EU remind me of the kids that can’t leave their parents basements.

Joking, right?

They actually like being under the EU’s thumb these days, besides.

I’m a confused American. I though Ireland already was a part of the UK. I do recall Scotland’s quest to seperate themselves from the UK last year. They will keep trying.

I don’t think he would have sold Ireland out to the EU like his counterpart did.

No, I don’t think any true Irish person would go for it at all. I think they would be happy to have their whole country back and independence if their economy will take it.

Most of Ireland is separate from the UK. A few of the northern, more heavily Protestant counties of Ireland stayed in the UK when the rest of Ireland became "a nation once again."

The Irish are a bunch of pathetic weenies for the most part, so it's doubtful that they'd have the gumption to leave the EU. It's even less likely that they'd want to rejoin the UK after being treated like crap by the British government for hundreds of years.

More likely N. Ireland joining the South....:^)

From the BBC web site -

London, Scotland and Northern Ireland were the only areas that voted to Remain in the referendum

The Irish Republic is not part of UK. The Irish probably are unlikely to easily forget being considered barbarians by the English for hundreds of years.

Based on my few conversations, I would say that the person on the street or running the shop is not particularly happy to be in the EU. They are economically weak. The question they might want to consider is whether they would be better off in the UK. History suggests that neither option is very good.

More likely Northern Ireland will unify with the Republic of Ireland and remain in the EU. Scotland may well secede and continue their dependence on the EU.

There are still a few Unionists (who want to rejoin the UK) in the Republic of Ireland. It seems they mostly belong to the Church of Ireland, a Protestant denomination that ecomprises about three percent of the population, and the few Orange Lodges (Protestant clubs) that remain in the country.

There will have to be a hard border between N. Ireland and Ireland. Big issue to be resolved.

I think if they want to join the UK, they should have to ban alcohol first.

Wait and see if Britain really follows through on leaving the EU.
