I have stopped using American Express for the month...they went "Pride"...
6/25/16 | sff

Posted on 06/25/2016 12:08:05 PM PDT by SoFloFreeper

I meant to post this a couple days ago but have been busy.

I noticed on twitter that Amex is now using the symbol stolen from the Scripture by the homosexual community--the rainbow--to symbolize the company's avatar.

the company American Express says it is commemorating homosexual behaviour throughout the month.

in return, for the month I will be using one of my Visa cards--even though I use Amex regularly because of a decent return I've enjoyed via its "points" program.

I urge any FREEPers who use credit responsibly to do the same.

What a coincidence. June 19th was the last date our AEX/Costco cards were good. Costco gave us Citi/VISA and the points return looks to be better than AEX. We have been using our Citi/VISA cards since the 20th. It will be interesting when the monthly bills start coming in to see/compare the return.

Kinda a shame. I’ve been an AEX member 2 years shy of 50 years.

Probably the right way to go in the long run.

I pay off my cc charges quickly. I just used my Cabelas points to purchase an evil black Gen 2 .45 Glock. We were planning on a purchase of one of those evil black pellet stoves but another weapon for the stable instead is a beautiful thing.

I see your rainbow logo. I don’t see it on my site or any of the other AMEX sites I go to. I believe you, but I can’t find it for myself.

If you use American Express LGBT as search terms in whatever search engine you prefer... you will get a huge number of links back including stuff on the American Express home page. It will include this little beauty of a pdf which starts off...

“American Express has long been committed to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) causes. We were one of the first Fortune 500 companies to extend benefits and enact tax equalization to all employees with same-sex partners*. As a result of this dedication, we have scored 100% on the Human Rights Campaign’s (HRC) Corporate Equality Index since 2004.”

I ripped up my Amerex card in 1992 when my daughter was coming home for Christmas from University and was stranded with no money due to weather at an en route airport. One of the advertised benefits of the card (at the time) was the ability to send cash via the Amerex airport counter to a person under those conditions.
TOTAL FAIL.

I am happy, though, to report that COSTCO no longer accepts Amerex card exclusively .
Starting July 1, Amerex is OUT, VISA is in... : )

yup. they tried to “hide” it on twitter.. not really hiding, but only for those with that social media.

interesting, too, if you look at their feed on twitter. lots of “same sex” ads about using the American express service.

it really is, i think, just a slavish move to the marketing ‘experts’, but i won’t play along. i have business i can move elsewhere for the month. hopefully it’ll hurt their bottom line enough that they won’t succumb to the culture next time around.

Costco also terminated its longstanding relationship w/Amex. I think I saw a banner that they’d accept Amex thru June 16, then au revoir.

i note a bit of sarcasm. :)

i understand. but yes, I do use credit—wisely. American Express will not get my use of that tool this month. that is my point.

“Fidelity just canned AMEX and is replacing it with a Visa credit card.”

Ditto for Costco, and their AMEX drop-dead date has now been reached, and they have additional special greeters just inside the front door “reminding” people they can no longer use their AMEX cards, and that there’s a Visa signup table “right here”.

I dumped Amex in 2002 due to their sheer incompetence. I sent a bill payment, and they said the check was no good, while my bank said it was perfectly valid. My last call to Amex had the phone right by the shredder while it ate the card.

Oddly in Canada Amex got dropped by Costco earlier and went with Mastercard.

“...the company American Express says it is commemorating homosexual behaviour throughout the month.”

No, Amex is condoning, approving, and demanding acceptance of, homosexual behavior.

Anyway, I carry only Visa.

Fidelity also canned Bank of America as administrator of their Master Card due to a massive data breech at B of A.

I quit using all credit cards several years ago.

Isn't it a pain stuffing all those gold coins when paying your mortgage, utility bills, taxes, etc,?

Everyone else should too. Then, let’s see what actual percentage of customers of those available they actually have.

Heard this week that one of the big box stores - can’t remember if it was Sam’s or Costco, or similar one - who had been taking only AMEX but they have now changed that policy and have gone to VISA.

I don't use credit cards either. My debit card suffices, and aside from that I have checks and cash.

Got no mortgage -- bought my fsbo house with cash. "Neither a borrower nor a lender be."

All of my property (a considerable amount) is paid off. No mortgages.

And there are other ways to pay bills than gold. I have an account I keep a small amount of money in to debit for utilities and groceries and I write checks for taxes. No credit. Frankly it is against my faith. Romans 13:8

It’s a business. They are looking for money, it’s green. Visa does the same so does MC.

Exactly. We bought our house with cash. We bought in a nice rural town where our 100+ year old Victorian was only 10k and in good condition and near the farm.

We got into the credit card trap in grad school and we spent more than we needed plus interest. No thanks. If I can’t pay it in full I can’t afford it and don’t need it.
