Well, Texas has huge refining capability and it has large ports and it is The Place for Oil Industry technology and manufacturing.
This is all a waste of bandwidth. I have never been for Secession. And one of my ancestors was born in TX during the Republic. Others fought in the American Revolution.
But you can take this to the bank. If we cannot overcome the leftist crap soon, all bets are indeed off.

It is ironic that Sam Houston was against seceding from the union and in fact refused to swear his loyalty to the rebellion. For this crime he was ejected from office and forced into exile, living as a pariah in the very state he helped create.

Which would be shut down by the USA, along with a blockade of attempts to export.
Texas has no standing military nor the ability to create one. Since the military in Texas is mostly not from Texas, any attempt by Texas to annex it would fail. The loyalty and materiel would remain with the USA.
Texas would be toothless and broke in a month, as would ANY state that tried to secede.
