It also helps depression.

It definitely helps with depression. I know from personal experience.
I exercise A LOT...and my brain has gotten so large, I outgrew my "Make America Great Again" cap.;-)

They do not define a long term exercise regime.
I suspect it would correlate with an effective aerobic exercise regime.

Exercise may well cause cognitive improvements, but it is a stretch to conclude that cathepsin B is how it works.
It is just correlation that has been demonstrated. Increased cathepsin B may just be a marker of stress from exercise.
Looking over the Wikipedia article for cathepsin B, it does not seem to have demonstrated positive effects - in fact it seems damaging.

"If this was true, jocks would be the smartest people on the planet. Depends on the sport. Those with high probability of head impact, probably not.....but long distance runners, bikers (NOT motor~), and similar do seem to fit the bill.

Is that why I remember the discomfort of exercising so well?

Scientists prove things and the. are constantly reversing themselves.
My doc just told me not to eat canola oil... Use butter. It’s like in that woody Allen movie sleeper. (Yeah I know Woody is a deplorable

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just stick to the old adage: Do almost all things in moderation and take all these studies to where the sun don’t shine.
To: RoosterRedux
That explains a lot. I keep meaning to exercise, but I forget.
