It appears Facebook is now a franchisee of the NSA
2016-06-24

I have a facebook account under a silly name that I use to log into other sites to make political comments.

Today facebook has demanded that I upload a photo ID from a state-issued driver's license, passport, military ID card, etc. before I can log in again.

I have screen shots of the demands that I will upload to this thread when I get home.

It may be time to go dark on the Interwebs. My spidey sense is tingling.

“FB has long had a policy of discouraging fake names.”

Just use a name that sounds real that the ignoramuses at FB wouldn’t know.

Charles Martel, Thomas Paine, Randy Weaver, Alvin York, are all examples of names that none of the liberal pajama boys in Palo Alto will know.

Facebook wants/demands that users use their real names. This is not new, but FB has been enforcing it much more over the past year or so.

The reason is simple, even if FB won't admit it -- they want to match a name with your FB posts, likes, interests, etc so they can more effectively sell that info to advertisers and marketers.

Collection and sale of that data is the only reason Facebook exists.

Depends. I’ve got a friend who happens to really have the same name of a famous pop star, she has all kinds of problems with FB thinking it’s a fake account. There’s also the problem is if your FB name is Charles Martel but everybody on your page calls you Bob they might notice that eventually.

It’s not real because I have no desire to publish anything about myself online. And I’ve never taken a selfie either.

I won’t have any such problems just because I don’t have a FB page. I’ve already had a problem with one stalker and I don’t need another!

I do the same thing and have no such demand. Just get a pic from a catalog of a weightlifter in a thong and post that. I have the wrong Bday listed and every question answered is a lie. I just want to log in to some pages.

There have been some Facebook hacks - my wife started getting porn pics attached to her page.

"It’s against their TOS to register an account with anything other than your real name (unless you are an organization of some sort, or artist with a stage name, something like that)."

You can also use a pen name or pseudonym as well as a stage name. You just need to prove that the alias is really your name and you have used it in some form of business or in some form of artistic creation etc. It is not so hard. I've used Mad Dawgg since AOL 1.0 and written articles and conducted business on the internet and received royalty checks etc. as such and thus I was allowed to remain Mad Dawgg on FaceBook.

I've been on Face Book for many years. I've never been asked to show a government type ID. I have posted a personal photo but not been asked for a confirmation.

Weird, what did you post? (cue spooky music). I post plenty of anti Obama, pro 2A, pro Christian belief, and (here's the big one....) anti Common Core, LOL

Steve Jobs comes to mind as well.

It is because he was putting conservative comments on there. Either someone complained about them, or someone at FB saw them and didn’t like them.

FB is so insidious. Use lightly.

Whne you sign in at Youtube, they are now asking for a second method of confirmation ... a method which will allow them to cross reference and ID you for targeted ad purposes. Maybe because I watch the past episodes of Dalziel&Pascoe, and Murder Call, and Inspector Morse, etc.?

It’s a handy way to keep in touch with people. I work on a SF convention, honestly I have no idea how we organized and promoted the convention before FB. And I was even there, but I don’t know how we pulled it off. And given that we just sold out for the first time ever and the convention is still 5 months away, my disbelief is probably justified.

"Some globalists creep must have reported you to Facebook because of your post."

I've posted much worse prior to that. I believe it was the NY Times jerks because I got lots of likes and comments about the hypocrisy of the piece. Elitists hate it when you point out their hypocrisy to the world.

Facebook likely exists to find peeps to put on the no fly, no buy lists.

Also, if you think about it, if you have to have a FB page with all your info floating around out there, maybe you should re evaluate your life. Think of a teenager that never looks higher than the horizon spending half her life crying and bitchin about Sally looking at her boyfriend and see if you really want to be in that crowd.
