It appears Facebook is now a franchisee of the NSA
2016-06-24

Posted on 06/24/2016 9:22:48 AM PDT by E. Pluribus Unum

I have a facebook account under a silly name that I use to log into other sites to make political comments.

Today facebook has demanded that I upload a photo ID from a state-issued driver's license, passport, military ID card, etc. before I can log in again.

I have screen shots of the demands that I will upload to this thread when I get home.

It may be time to go dark on the Interwebs. My spidey sense is tingling.

Then you have to confirm it by having them text your cell phone.

< The EU has demanded people use state issued IDs in order to log on...to anything!! Not a l;aw yet but soon.

And Zuckerberg will be crying like baby when everybody stops using his pet creation and he loses all that ad revenue. And then they start repo'ing all his cars and garnishing his bank accounts. Couldn't happen to a more deserving guy

This is not new. I got the same message earlier this month with the exact same demands.

I told them straight off I was not sending them ANY form of ID whatsoever, now or in the future. Told them I do not trust their security and I was not going to let personal information get on to the net to be stolen by anyone, and if they insisted on such ridiculous demands well then there are other sites where I can log on and exchange messages.

And I told them to get stuffed. Haven’t been back since.

They’ve never asked my dog’s account for a photo ID.

Woof.

I've been Mad Dawgg on FB for 7 years. I recently shared a NY Times piece on FB about 400 Authors signing a petition to remove Trump from the Republican Nomination because he "appealed to the darker side of the American People".

I pointed out that the most famous Author on the list Stephen King had written best selling novels that included murder, torture, rape, sodomy and child molestation. And called him out for being a hypocrite for making millions of dollars off of these books then wanting to remove Trump from the nomination because he wants immigration to be legal which apparently appeals to the darker side of the American people.

Within 24 hours of that post I was notified that if I did not submit legal Identification my account would be locked.

I jumped through their hoops and pointed out I had used the Pen Name Mad Dawgg on the internets since AOL 1.0 which predates Facebook by nearly a decade.

Actually when you get right down to it, their security is working perfectly. They are challenging you to prove that you are real, and by your own admission your ID is *not* real. :-) If so, you’d have one of those documents requested in your posession with that name on it.

There has been a lot of account hijacking on Facebook. A fake user will copy as much of your info as possible. Take on your name and portrait. They then claim to be you to Facebook and demand that you lose your account. That forces Facebook to demand the extra identification from you. They have been trying to steal my online personal for awhile now. Real creepy. Be very careful of who you accept as friends. Think they use that friendship to get extra information about you. And assume everything you do on Facebook is being monitored or at least reported to the feddies. That is a given. Only tell them what they already know.

Relax. They already know exactly who you are.

As geo-tagging of texts is still not possible (though geotagging of your location using a facebook app is something routinely done), you can simply pick up a cheap pay as you go cell phone at your local quickie mart (or if you shop around you can buy them for less than $20 with a month of service.)

Use that for your verification and you're done. Toss it into the trash if you'd like after.

Oh, no no no .. this is absolutely correct.

I was on there as Celerity. What I did was log into an Indonesian proxy, set my language to Indonesian (Remembering the menus visually) and then changed my name.

All I wanted was a single word for a Facebook account. I switched everything back to the US and waited 2 weeks.

Well lo and behold I get this “request” from Facebook for me to send them a photo of my ID. Which is ridiculous because I could have photoshopped anything I wanted in there.

needless to say, I will BE DAMNED if a website demands to see my ID. Not gonna happen.

You see, I am raising a kid now. And that kid learns everything that I do. And I won’t raise my kid to comply with the demands of a stupid website. I will not comply.

So I had to show her through example. When someone asks you to do something you don’t like, you say NO and you click the safety off on your pistol.

Facebook has been that way since the beginning. It’s against their TOS to register an account with anything other than your real name (unless you are an organization of some sort, or artist with a stage name, something like that).

If it’s an obvious fake name, they’ll ask you for ID right away, so you must have chosen a name that sounded real enough to slip their notice until someone reported you.

You are allowed to use a pen name or pseudonym you just need to prove you are real and not made up. You can do so by using your real driver's license or Passport and then provide two other items like mail or checks written to your pen name/pseudonym.

I have such things and have for years because I used to do lots of business on the internet as Mad Dawgg.
