The internet is obsessing over this 18th century fried chicken recipe

So far, almost one million people have watched a video of a man in a Tricorne hat demonstrating how colonists made fried chicken in the 18th century.

The recipe, first published in Nathan Bailey's 1736 cookbook, "Dictionarium Domesticum," utilizes quartered chicken, malt vinegar and green onions as a three-hour marinade, flour and white wine as a frying batter, and — if you really want to go authentic — lard or clarified butter as frying oil.

"The tartness of the marinade contrasted to the sweetness of the batter really sets this dish off," costumed video host Jonathan Townsend says in the video description.

My Mother made the best fried chicken. One day when she was around 80 I asked for her recipe. She rolled the pieces in flour with salt and pepper.

She fried it in lard. She did get the grease pretty hot. She also did not get it quite as crispy as most.

Each and every month as many people are murdered in Chicago, on average, as were murdered in Orlando in the recent massacre.

Chicago: massacre capital of the USA, home to Obama, by coincidence.

The REAL secret to fantastic fried chicken is to let it soak in fresh clean water at least 12 hours before you fry it. That’s an old-time secret. Draws the blood out, purifies it, and betters the taste.

My family are reenactors. His videos are great! The ones on building and baking with an earth (mud) are worth watching especially if you are a prepper.

Maybe free fried chicken might keep the murder rate down.

My patriot ancestor was a famous chef during the time of the Revolution. He was trying a new recipe one night when he heard a commotion in the hen house.

He grabbed his musket, ran out and captured a loyalist looter.

In honor of the poultry which raised the alarm — he named his new dish “Chicken Catch a Tory”

I would cut up the chicken— learned when I was about ten— then I was trusted to grill it (BBQ) but not to fry it in Crisco in the electric skillet.
Mom did the chicken-fried chicken.
Dad was busy shooting communists.
