HOUSTON (KTRK) --A terrifying shootout in west Houston left two people dead and six more injured. One of those deceased is a suspect and the other is a citizen.

Houston Police Department 2 hours ago

Update on active shooter situation on Memorial Drive:

The scene is still active; continue to avoid the area.

The latest information is that 1 suspect is dead at the scene and 1 suspect was wounded and has been transported to an area hospital. ...

According to Houston police, it started as a shooting in progress call at 13200 Memorial Drive at around 10:15am. When an officer arrived, at least one of the suspects began firing. More units and a SWAT team were called in and a perimeter was set up around the scene.

At some point, one of the suspects was shot and killed, apparently by the other suspect. That other suspect was then shot by a SWAT team. The second suspect was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

During the shooting, one citizen was shot and killed and two Precinct 5 deputy constables were also shot. One of the deputy constables was saved by his vest. The other was shot in the hand and is expected to be OK.

Three other citizens were wounded in the shootout. At this point, we don't know any of their conditions.

According to HPD, one of the suspects had a high-powered weapon, believed to be an AR-15. Police say the suspect even fired at a police helicopter.

There was a shelter-in-place during the shooting. Once Houston police deemed the situation was over, the shelter-in-place was lifted.

At this point, we don't know how the situation started.

Can’t believe you didn’t get any advice to stay away from Houston, although 0dunga’s ‘diversity in housing’ BS and importation of millions of illegals has reaped havoc everywhere.

Do you know of any place in the country that doesn’t have shootings? Even New York City, Manhattan in particular, still had a couple of murders a year when Bloomberg left.

The ‘pickins’ are pretty SLIM in some Neighborhoods compared to Others.

The Woodlands, for Instance, They ARMED themselves when they left Houston.

One of the happiest days of my life was seeing Houston in my rear view mirror for the last time.

Do they usually work with AR-15S?

I would actually call an AR-15 a medium powered rifle. That was one if its design parameters.A .300 Winchester Magnum is a high-powered rifle. An 88mm anti-tank gun is a high-powered weapon.

Can’t disagree with you on that one. It just about ruined Tomball for some reason they swarmed into that location.

There are enough home grown problems already though. Katrinaites just added icing on the cake.

Katrina - The Gift That Keeps On Giving

Lived a few a blocks south of this intersection back in the 2000's in Lakeside Place. After Katrina, it went to crap. I was out of there by the end of 2008.

And I am looking forward to it. Can hardly wait for the day that I pray will come sometime later this year.

I think most cities are terrible but as cities go Houston is a cesspool right down there with the very worst.

If Austin is the San Francisco of Texas (and it is) then Houston is the Chicago.

Yeah, in the rural area where I live there hasn't been a shooting in decades except for deer and ducks.

Not sure where you live now, but the super humidity when it’s 90+ degrees in Houston is worse than anything else there.

As someone once described it, it's like trying to breathe in Cheez-Whiz.

I've lived in Houston, going on 6 decades. My family has never been robbed or assaulted. My house has never been broken into.

My son's truck was broken into once. His CB and his diesel computer was taken. And the back glass on the expedition was broken once.

During Hurricane Rita we did see looters in the neighborhood. Myself and a neighbor stood watch, for all to see, with our shotguns at the ready.

So, No. I do not think that Houston has sunk to the levels of Chicago.

One of those deceased is a suspect and the other is a citizen.

odd way to report ? Can I assume "citizen" is what used to be referred to as an innocent by stander ?
