They are trying to define the experience," says Sony's marketing chief as vocal (and sexist?) foes of the female reboot face off against a summer tentpole's trailers. When Sony Pictures' second trailer for its female-fronted Ghostbusters reboot appeared online May 18, fans initially had to find it on Facebook. The studio had switched from YouTube, which hosted the first trailer, in a deliberate effort to combat a cacophony of negative reaction emanating from a very vocal minority online.

I can name 30 awesome scifi books right now that are more than 5 years old and have never made it to the big screen. Hey Hollywood instead of your constant never-ending train of lame ass movie reboots how about bringing some new stuff to the cinema.

The original movie was great because of the people in it.

So did the awful "Ghostbusters 2." The original was a lightning-in-a-bottle kind of movie.

All of my SJW friends on Facebook are suddenly in lockstep flogging this awful movie. I don’t think that this effort will have the effect Sony desires, because when one of my SJW Facebook friends starts flogging a movie, I know that it is guaran-GD-teed to be awful.

One positive SJW review is worse for a movie than a thousand thumbs down on YouTube.

So if I rebooted Thelma & Louise with two dudes, and women objected, that would make them sexist?

Not if you made the characters gay.

Without Annie Potts, it ain’t the Ghost Busters.

The Magnificent Seven was good because of the cast, but looking deeper it was a lesser copy of Seven Samurai, that only had one real star, Mifune.
I think you could do a Magnificent Seven without the original cast, but the writing and production would have to be much better to compensate.
The new True Grit by the Coen bros for instance was better than the John Wayne version, because they did justice to the style and language of the original novel.

Absolutely right.
Mote in God’s Eye would be spectacular.

Great question! The only logical answer I can come up with is that would involve some actual work with people who may be outside of their incestuous little circle.

“Ghostbusters marks the first major film to get a female-centric redo (plans for others are in the works, from Ocean’s Eleven to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)”

Here's how this strikes me. Whenever lefties throw out the "women earn only x cents for every dollar a man earns" argument, many of us respond "but if that's true, why does anybody hire men? If women are that much lower cost labor they should be the only labor that's ever hired!" Lefties, lacking even the most rudimentary understanding of economics just roll their eyes and call you a hater.

BUT we have documentary evidence now that in one industry it is flat out true that women earn less than their male equivalents: hypocritical liberal Hollywood! When Sony was hacked it came out that leading ladies like Jennifer Lawrence make less on a film than even the much lower marquee value male supporting actors in some cases.

And now Hollywood wants to make films with only women. Coincidence? Hmmmm.

I'd like a word in private with the Hollywood execs that decided to make Melissa McCarthy a star.

Yup. And the future for all movies.

Maybe like the movie ratings system, PG, PG13, R, etc. we can force the producers to add an “indoctrination” or BS/political rating. That way, average folks will know not to see a movie if it gets too political.
