Former detective denies sexual assaults, admits catfight fetish
The State ^ | MAY 24, 2016 | AUDREY HUDSON

Former Horry County (SC) Police Detective Troy Allen Large admits to encouraging at least three women to participate in sexual fetish videos referred to as catfighting, hosting a couple of fights of different women in his home and videotaping a fight with a woman who was a victim of domestic violence.

He admitted the behavior during nearly five hours of a video deposition of Large taken under oath March 2 that was obtained by The Sun News. Large and the Horry County Police Department are being sued by two of the women identified only as Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, whose sexual assault cases Large was assigned to investigate.

Large is accused of sexually assaulting Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, as well as persuading them to make the videotapes as a means to make money. Large denied numerous times that he ever assaulted or touched the women, but admitted that he suggested they participate in videotaped catfights that he said paid $2,000.

A third woman identified as Jane Doe 3 traveled with Large to Asheville, N.C., in the spring 2015 where they spent the night and taped a fight with a woman they met on a website called “Catfight Connection,” Large said.

Jane Doe 3 was shot by her first husband, who was serving time in jail, and reported to the Horry County Police Department that she was being abused by her second husband.

Large was not the investigator on the case, and did not explain in the deposition how he became involved. Large said that after the case was closed, he went to the victim’s house to return her gun that had been taken during the domestic abuse investigation.

“I told her some of the stuff I was doing and she said she was interested,” Large said, referring to the catfights.

“You knew she was a battered woman?” asked James B. Moore III, a lawyer for the Jane Does.

“I knew her husband shot her and he went to prison for it, there was some kind of domestic situation with her new husband and she wanted a divorce, that’s all I knew,” Large said.

“She never said that she didn’t like it,” Large said after the fight was taped, and denied that Jane Doe 3 vomited afterward when questioned about it. Large said Jane Doe 3 was proud of the photos that showed her bruises after the catfight.

Large said that Jane Doe 1 and 2 were “already engaged in doing stuff that was definitely illegal and getting hardly anything for it.”

“They were doing things illegal, drug-related, prostitution and stripping and it was just an opportunity,” Large said.

“Did you ever try to get them counseling?” Moore asked.

“For what?” Large responded.

Large went into detail about what he described as his “fetish” for catfight videos, where two women who are either naked or wearing underwear fight each other, and listed off several of the websites he viewed. Large said that he hosted some events at his house, but insisted the Jane Doe 3 incident was the only catfight he videotaped and that he did not do it to make money.

Large said during the deposition that he feels like he was caught looking at porn. He said he was not obsessed with the fetish, but that he had attended several matches.

“Probably y’all sitting here at the table think that it’s sick that I would want to see women wrestle, box or loose some of their clothes in a match, but it is what it is, and I’m sorry, but I’m not sorry,” Large said.

“I always wanted to go ask a psychiatrist why for some reason I like something like that. But I like strong women. I don’t like to see women abused. I like to see a strong woman,” Large said.

Large told The Sun News on Monday that he can’t comment on the case “but the deposition is what it is. I’m glad y’all got it.”

“I look forward to getting arrested, I’m hoping the charges come forward and I look forward to answering this,” Large said. “Once everything is done, you can grill me, hang me upside down, ask me questions about Jane Doe 1, Jane Doe 2 and Jane Doe 3.”

Large has not been criminally charged. He was fired in July after an internal investigation substantiated claims of sexual harrassment, according to his termination letter signed by then chief Saundra Rhodes. Large had been with the Horry County Police Department for 27 years. Large said in the deposition his firing was due to a complaint filed with the department by Jane Doe 2.

The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has been investigating individuals in the Horry County Police Department since November, and Large acknowledged providing a statement to investigators. Any findings of wrongdoing will be forwarded to the state Attorney General.

Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier declined to comment on the statements made by Large in the deposition, citing the ongoing investigation. The internal investigation files collected on Large were forwarded to SLED and any criminal charges against Large would come from that investigation, Bourcier said.

Large was assigned to investigate sexual assault reports filed by Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2, and said both complaints were unfounded and that he closed both cases within a few days. Large admits he kept in touch with both victims and tried to help them. No lawsuit has yet been filed by Jane Doe 3.

The former senior detective said he bought groceries and wine for Jane Doe 1, and admitted he knew she had a drinking problem.

Large says he drove her across the state line into North Carolina in his police vehicle for her to pick up a prescription at a pharmacy there. He said that Jane Doe 1 admitted she had a drug problem, but that he did not know if this prescription and another he filled for her at an Horry County pharmacy were for narcotics.

Large said he bought candy for Jane Doe 1’s children, took her to church with him and his wife, and that they paid her to clean their house. Large insisted throughout the deposition that he was only trying to help the women.

In the two lawsuits, Jane Doe 1 and Jane Doe 2 say they were sexually assaulted by Large, but he denied the charge several times during his deposition.

“When a woman is sexually assaulted ... you almost kill them,” Large said. “I’ve always looked at murder and rape ... as the two worst things you can do.”

“If I was going to have sex with her or be mean to her, why would I involve my church, my wife?” Large said of Jane Doe 1.

At the time lawyers say Large sexually assaulted Jane Doe 2 in his police vehicle, Large said her boyfriend was with them and no assault occurred.

Large did not talk about this interest in catfighting during his first and only psychiatric evaluation that was conducted by the county in July, just weeks before he was terminated for “sexual harassment,” but said he wanted to have that conversation.

“I was just curious, why do people want to be a child molester? Why do people play Farmville and ask people to feed their chickens while they’re gone? Why’s people obsessed with Facebook and go yeah, we’re going to Disney today? It’s crazy but the internet’s opened a lot of things up,” Large said.

Large described the women who participate in catfight videos as professional doctors, lawyers and teachers, the “total opposite of what you’d expect like some redneck of biker chick fighting.”

The investigation continues amid the departure of two top officials in the department. Rhodes retired May 6 after the county paid $60,000 into her state retirement fund to allow her to leave 19 months early. Deputy Chief Scott Rutherford announced in early May that he would retire in June.

The upheaval comes as some county officials are considering whether to merge the Horry County Police Department with the Horry County Sheriff’s Office before a new chief is hired.

Actually, I first thought of the slang, as in to be catfishes, where someone on the internet amorously impersonates another person, e.g. an overweight girl posing as a slim one, with pics lifted from somewhere on the web. MTV has a show named Catfish, which I accidentally watched...

only in SOUTH and East...

A couple of years ago, attorney Michele Eliot of Casper was convicted in a Plymouth, Massachusetts court for inducing a minor into having illegal sexual intercourse. Under Massachusetts law Michele had committed a felony.

In 2010, the enablers for Attorney Misfits sitting on the Wyoming State Bar’s Board of Responsibility concluded that Michele was fit to practice law and reinstated her license.

Isn’t Wyoming a great country?

As we speak (ca. Jan 2012) Michele practices law at 1726 South Jackson Street in Casper.

You seem a pleasant sort. Fellow Americans disgust you, and there is not a whiff of fellowship about you.

Happy trolling.
