Detroit listed as a city to "Never visit alone" (2nd on World List)
Fox ^ | 5-17-2016 | Active Times

If you dare to travel to these cities, make sure you are with someone else. It’s always better to have two sets of eyes looking out. This offers increased safety and protection against the unknown. As The Active Times explores the most dangerous cities to travel alone, it listed Mexico City as being number one based on kidnapping, robberies and assaults. In fact, it went so far as stating that the "U.S. Department of State issued a warning about traveling to certain places in Mexico due to threats and safety."

Number two on the list? Detroit.

The Active Times writes "Although Detroit is trying to make a comeback; it is still considered one of the most dangerous cities. Robberies, sexual assaults, murders, break-ins and drugs are controlling the streets."

From there, they cited stats from one precinct in Detroit where homicides went from 52 in 2012, 43

That’s ok. I wouldn’t visit Seattle again ever. Lived in Communist Washington state for over 20 years until a few years ago.

Detroit is not the least bit frightening to me.
I love Michigan so much.

I’ve not only been through there, Pine Bluff, I spent the night there. Found a motel near a half vacant mall. The motel manager told me exactly where to park so the security camera could keep an eye on my vehicle. I went to a restaurant in the mall. A mostly empty mall seems a little weird walking through it. Almost apocalyptic.

Looking at the murder statistics, it was safer in Ramadi Iraq during the height of the insurgency than it is today in Chicago.

“I took a wrong interstate exit and landed in East St Louis.
National Lampoon’s “Vacation” didn’t tell the half of it.”

When I was 14, we had to drive from St. Louis to Illinois. The moment we entered East St. Louis my Mother’s boyfriend hit the gas & didn’t let up until we were out of there. I was holding my breath the entire time.

That was in 1985; I can only imagine how big a cesspool it is now.

Yeah, I’ve been to Pine Bluff. Drove through a few years ago.

I have a friend whose house burned in NW Arkansas about 5 years ago. (The fire inspector said the curly fluorescent light bulb caused the fire but that’s another topic.) The fire inspector also told him there are two towns where he calls the cops and has them meet him at the location he’s going to inspect before he gets to town. That’s Pine Bluff and Helena.

Stopped going to Memphis. I go to Collierville or Tupelo. Memphis has so much to offer, but the chance of crime makes it not worth it.

“I will drive out of my way to go around Memphis. That’s the only city on the list I would ever have a reason to near in the future.”

I don’t blame you. The last time I was in Memphis was around 10-15 years ago for a Rod Stewart concert. The casino in Tunica provided us a limo to transport us to the concert. As soon as we entered Memphis, the chauffeur locked all the doors & windows. He wasn’t taking any chances. After the concert we got out of Memphis ASAP:)

Come to Boston.

All cities have bad areas but Boston is very safe compared to some of the others mentioned.

The problem there is I can’t stand the way people talk and gesticulate. Almost as bad.

I grew up in Detroit, and 40 years ago, I lived on the East-Side, down the block from Detroit City Airport. I attended Osborn High School, when Detroit Public Schools actually functioned. I possess a Concealed Pistol License, and carry whenever I am down there.
It’s a totally different world, now.

Sitting in number 5 right now. A few spots around the Poplar Avenue Midtown area look safe. The rest of the town is Mogadishu

I took a wrong interstate exit and landed in East St Louis. National Lampoon’s “Vacation” didn’t tell the half of it.
