This is a bunch of BS from the Park Rangers.

There are thousands of ranchers who raise buffalo, did they call even one to see if the rancher would take the calf?

Stay away from the wildlife, or we will kill the wildlife!

We have people here in TN who farm buffalo. I bet they would have loved to have that calf.

Bison can’t be shipped out of the park because they may be infected with brucellosis.

Actually, the tourists WERE the stupid ones. They thought the calf was “cold” and grabbed it away from the herd and stuck it in their car. http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Yellowstone-tourists-put-baby-bison-in-car-7469642.php#photo-10005888

Euthanize rangers, not bison.

Back in the early 80’s on a Sunday afternoon a day off Cowboy told his buddy to hold his beer he was going to pet that Bison calf.

Momma Bison showed him that was a bad choice. It was a closed casket.

You’ve never raised cattle, have you? When a cow has twins and rejects one of them because she doesn’t have enough milk for two?

And the buffalo herd is already at carrying-capacity. Predators are required to keep the balance.

You do know what wolves do to baby buffalo, right?

Peta - exactly! I was going to post the same thing, when I saw yours.

I have mixed feelings about this. As the proud owner of two wild birds that ‘do-gooders’ just couldn’t leave alone, I’ve given a lot of time, and many years (do you know how long pigeons live???) to caring for wildlife that should have been left wild.

People find baby birds on the ground, and don’t think that the mom and dad are certainly somewhere around; and if people would just leave them alone - or simply move them out of traffic, if that’s an issue - the parents will take care.

I acquired mine (a pigeon and a sparrow) because do-gooders decided to ‘help’; and they would have been euthanized by the facility where they were brought, if I didn’t volunteer to take them.

I’ve taken good care of them - they’ve been comfortable. But I don’t know if they’ve been ‘happy’, as opposed to flying the skies. (I’ve reared and released orphaned birds; but the circumstances surrounding these didn’t allow for that. They would have had a better chance at ‘happiness’ if just left alone.)

On the other hand, there are plenty of people who are glad to take care of orphans, if they truly need care; you just have to do the work to find them, and give up the ‘know-it-all’ attitude that outfits like Peta have, as to what should live and what should die.

The “more to the story” is that the buffalo are already overgrazing their range. Wolves used to take care of the excess baby buffalo. Now granola-eaters are evidently doing the job.

These compassionate tourists are lucky they got away with only a citation . They deprived a wolf pack and young pups of a meal . Not to mention a momma grizzly and cubs .

Have you ever been to Yellowstone ? Mother Nature is beautiful but brutal .

Unless a zoo or a private party, like a farmer, offered up to take it off the Yellowstone and pay for everything required, like immunizations and parasitical cleansing, it wasn’t anything the park could afford to take up itself.
