A training exercise was held at the venue and the device, designed to look authentic, was not returned at its conclusion.

That meant it remained in place before the match, at which a crowd of 76,000 was expected, and prompted its discovery by a steward, who raised the alarm.

I would say they failed the training exercise.

Missed locating and removing said test device.

Had this been a real emergency, the consequences could have been lethal.

“And congrats to Arsenal for the win over Tottenham.”

Uh, Arsenal beat Aston Villa. Tottenham lost to Newcastle. I guess you were referring to Arsenal moving into second place ahead of Tottenham..

Back in the ‘70s I knew a guy who tested out the security of computers rooms. (In those days they were putting them in glass-encased rooms so the public could see them.)

He told me about one company whose management was starting to get security concerns and hired him to test out their own security, bragging it “was foolproof”.

During the inspection, he called over the beaming top dogs and asked them to look in a locker he had opened. There, nestled atop a duffel bag was a small bundle of dynamite sticks, complete with a fuse.

The suits just about wet themselves and bolted from the room. The security guy picked up the “bomb” and showed them it was a bunch of broomstick handles he had cut to 8” lengths, painted them red, and wrapped electricians tape around the whole works.

One of his agents had planted it there during a company tour.

They were not happy.
