What gives? No Wrinkins or Caderacks on that list.
I remember when “Made in Japan” meant it was junk. I can’t imagine the quality and engineering on these cars.
The Mercedes-Benz R-Class SUV’s which are only being sold in China, are being built in the AM General HMMWV/Hummer Plant in Mishawaka (South Bend), Indiana.
The Plant was sold to a Chinese Company in 2009.
This is the SAME CHINESE-OWNED PLANT that Hillary Clinton did a photo-op in on April 27
They still liking Buicks over there?
Buicks are considered the equivalent of Audis and Mercedes.
Go figure!
you wouldn’t catch me dead in a Chinese car. Their cheap plastic crap is fine for its purpose- but nothing that could mean my life. no food, cars, medical supplies etc
they are designed and built over there.
Rice burners!!
Ditto. Never.
They find a way to adulterate everything they manufacture or grow.
As I heard it, back in the 20’s or so one was presented to the emperor who was smitten by it and they’ve always been particular towards then since.
It poses a special problem to the GM team tasked with destroying profit and market share... ;-)
Thank you for adding an authoritative post to this thread!
“While our US-specific cars are being eviscerated and replaced with watered down global cars.
The only comfort is that the Chinese equivalents are even more watered down (read: lots of I4s in 6/8 places) just to sell.”
In reference to engine output, cars from Europe, the US and elsewhere have substituted 4 cylinder turbo engines for 6 and 8 cylinder non-turbos.
The smaller turbo engines have MORE horsepower and torque, than recent 6 and 8 cylinder non-turbos.
Four cylinder 2.0 liter engines with turbo easily make 250 hp, and 250 lb. ft. of torque. Even more. And with higher fuel economy.
When you look at what the engineers are doing performance-wise and the emission and fuel economy levels being met, it’s very impressive.

In 2006 we leased a top-of-the-line Volvo XC90, SUV with a V8 engine. Two years. Not my favorite vehicle, but okay.
The latest models of this vehicle have a Four cylinder turbo, with more horsepower and more torque.
Turbo is far from new technology, but it is relatively new for mass use in the US. It was more common in recent decades in Europe. For example many models from Volvo, Saab, VW, Audi and others used turbo.
Turbo four cylinders have replaced six cylinders in the luxury lines of BMW, Mercedes, Audi for example. Equal/more HP and Torque than the engines they replaced.
For extra high fuel economy, a high performance turbo diesel, with electric hybrid would be nice. Very expensive, too. Like an Audi Le Mans winner.
