Why has FR turned on Cruz?
vanity | today | me

Posted on 05/02/2016 2:30:43 PM PDT by bassmaner

I'll keep this vanity short ... Mods: please feel free to pull it if it's inappropriate.

Why have so many here on FR turned on Ted Cruz in such a vicious way?

We cheered when we first heard about Ted taking on the establishment in TX to win the primary in the race to fill Kay Bailey Hutchison's vacated Senate seat, in a bad year for the GOP

We cheered again when Ted exhorted us to 'Stand With Rand' when he offered public support for Rand Paul's filibuster over the NDAA

Once more, we cheered when he stood on the Senate floor and urged his colleagues to join him and use the power of the purse to kill Obamacare

We nodded our collective heads in approval when he openly and correctly called Mitch McConnell a liar

And we jumped for joy when he became the first GOPer to announce a presidential run!

So ... what happened? Yes, Trump announced. But at first, not too many people took him seriously. For the longest time, there seemed to be an unspoken pact between Trump and Cruz, where they occasionally said nice things about each other while bashing the other candidates.

But ever since the voting began and Trump turned on Cruz (starting with the Ben Carson imbroglio in Iowa), a large contingent of FReepers did the same and seem to be echoing RINOs like John Boehner and Peter King in their absolute abhorrence of Cruz.

Yes, we need to choose sides, but for God's sake, can't we send that kind of vitriol in the direction that it belongs, ie. Hildabeast and the 'Rat Party, and knock off the circular firing squad?

But hell, lets toss the guy with 100% conservative rating overboard.

A hundred percent conservative don't sponsor an increase of 500% of H-1B visas. That is just one example.

I "thought" I liked him early on...but then I got to know him. The more I saw of him, the less I liked him.

When he joined forces with Neil Bush and the GOPe that was pretty telling. Added to that, he continually lies...and we know he is lying...but he just keeps doing it! I don't understand it.

He just comes across as a snake oil salesman....awkward speaking manner...creepy smirks...

In a nutshell, he's just not a likable guy and seems like he would do/say anything to get what he wants.

Rubio isn’t the issue here.

Where did the “big announcement next week” claim come from? It wasn’t from CNN, it wasn’t from Carson. Some Cruz person pulled it out of his ***.

That’s not “basic campaigning”, it is basic lying.

A hundred percent conservative would never vote for the Corker bill.
Hell, even a forty percent conservative would never vote to give nukes to Iran.

"You don’t win at the expense of your honor, because to do so makes you dishonorable."

I will confess I am torn...conflicted(?). Honor is always important when we are dealing with honorable men, but I feel the reason we always seem to lose to the left is because we refuse to take the fight to them... To go to their level, get in the mud and mix it up with them... Deal them tit-for-tat.!

The left has no honor... They lie, cheat and steal at every turn. If we remain unwilling to make the necessary sacrifices to win then we, our generation, will lose the most powerful and economically successful nation the world has ever seen to a bunch of fagots and third world invaders....

I think its time we get a little dirty....

Sorry for the rant...

:(

For me the vitriol of Trump supporters and their hero worship has turned me off Trump.

It is not hero worship. Well, not yet anyhow. It is someone in the Republican party actually bringing up issues people care about and showing a spine.

Cruz was a stalwart Senator. He has ruined his reputation running against Donald Trump so when he returns to the Senate in a few months he will be ineffective and a laughing stock. Which is a shame. Except for trade/TPP and immigration Cruz was good in the US Senate.

I will never trust Cruz on trade/TPP this is for sure.

First, Ted shredded his constitutional principles by aligning himself with the GOP establishment/oligarchs in trying to rig the election in his favor AGAINST the will of the VOTERS.

Cruz lost to Trump. No path to the 1237. Instead of supporting the front-runner and bowing out gracefully -he picks a running-mate?

Good post......Cruz shows no respect for our political system.
His contempt for the intelligence of voters, acting as if they can't possibly know what he's up to.....has triggered a visceral dislike for the man.

Do you read what you post?
Please reread your comments after one year of a Trump administration (yes, I think it is inevitable) and try to remember those naive days when you were part of a game changing movement, try not to cry.

Do you honestly believe that Trump has "respect for our political system" when he has (on record):
Advocated violence against protesters & his opposition,
Declared Ben Carson to be a mediocre surgeon, (before Cruz's "out of the race" gaffe),
Threatened to destroy the GOP if he is not treated differently than all others (in his mind..."fairly"),
Misrepresented pre existing primary rules as having been written solely to hurt (only) Donald Trump,
Elevated childish insults to the level of discourse ("that face").
And, who seems intent on deepening the chasm with every word or motion.

Yet, somehow, you can claim that it is Cruz who does not respect the same system that he has tried to reform for as long as he has held office?
And which you now claim is supporting Cruz in his disrespectful use of party rules.

Contempt for the voters??
Please.
At least Cruz treats us as voters and not as sheep!
(Your "visceral dislike" is a direct mirror of what you've heard from the podium...confirmed today when Cruz attempted to talk to a robot protester in Indiana)
If you are still in doubt, please review the preceding paragraph

Finally, the Trump camp insists that the media is trying to destroy their candidate. Nonetheless, I've had the TV on Fox almost all day (Monday) and as near as can be determined, they've written Cruz off and begun to parrot the "majority of votes" hypocrisy from Trump's "fairness" whine.
