An author is receiving backlash after voicing that childless women also deserve a maternity leave. The concept is deemed a "meternity" leave, and Meghann Foye makes her statement in an article in the New York Post.

Foye, 38, thought up the idea when she was a magazine editor and became "envious" of her co-workers who would leave to care for their children after their eight hour days. She said that she felt as if all of the childless workers had to then pick up the slack and work for ten or more hours a day.

Fine, all those single women can have meternity leave, provided they agree to be sleep deprived and exhausted for the whole six weeks.

Our culture has gone insane. As an old codger all I can do is sit back and be entertained. I have tried to stand against the wave of the zeitgeist for most of my life with predictably unfortunate results.

Touche!

At my job there is a lot of resentment by older childless white women towards the non-white mothers; the white women don’t work longer hours, and tend to have higher positions/pay, but they resent when the mothers have to take time off (which they are entitled to) when something arises with their children. It is just naked jealousy; the white women realize pets are no substitute for kids, but it is too late to rectify that...

In that case, men certainly deserve “menternity leave.”

She said that she felt as if all of the childless workers had to then pick up the slack and work for ten or more hours a day.

I can understand her frustration. I have a few coworkers in the navy who often play the "I'm a single parent" card that allows them to arrive late, leave early, and take frequent days off.

How about we just do away with paid maternity leave. They aren’t there and aren’t doing the work so why the heck should companies pay for them just because they decided to have a baby? Makes no sense. If you want a baby, do it on your own time. Fine if the company wants to give them time off with their accumulated sick and vacation days but don’t expect the other workers to have to work more to take up the slack.

Well, if you read the first paragraph you’d kind of agree with her. I well remember in the 80s when pregnant and nursing women would leave early, not show up at all and we would have to run around doing all their work for them. They got their paycheck, we got nothing extra. Then, there came the time when some of them dared to make their secretaries mind their kids while they went off to meetings and nail salons. I kid you not.

Hey, places have Paternity leave. Sounds like a vacation to me.

Fair is fair: child-free guys should get some family time as well.

Single people didn’t tell people to have kids, so what does personal exhausting things have to do with work?

i know men and women that get clocked at work because of this BS.

want maternity leave? marry a husband who makes enough to support you and the kid.

or does the kid not need you after 3 months.

because that has turned out a great generation.

In an era that is pushing paid maternity leave laws, this is perfect. I just love when liberal ideas implode!

I’m a white woman who resented younger women coming in late and leaving early because of children.

Guess who did their work? The rest of us.

Full disclosure : I had 5 kids.

Not everyone chooses not to have children. You want to consider that from your high horse.
