Gary and Angela Williams of Northwest England were on a leisurely beach stroll when a pungent rotting-fish smell drew them to a lump of ambergris about the size of an American football.

The couple had read about the waxy excretion formed in the digestion system of sperm whales and often referred to as whale vomit. They knew the substance often used in perfume-making is rare and valuable, and wrapped it in a scarf and took it home.

New money making idea:

1) Capture whale

2) Feed it lots of fish

3) Play recording of Hillary Clinton speech

4) Profit!

[Stupid me. I would have gone “eeewww whale barf” and walked around it.]

I’m surprised you didn’t put a barf alert message after the title.
Having said that, yours is the best puke article ever.

[I learned about ambergris from Encyclopedia Brown and Smelly Nellie 45 years ago.]

Small world isn’t it that you know my neighbors.

The way around the ambergris ban is to call an amberlamps if you find some.

What do they do with it to make it smell like Chanel Number 5?

Good! Then that’s one law of 80,000 that I won’t have to worry about breaking, in my lifetime.

And yet, you posted this in News/Activism.

The last paragraph of the article:

Even though harvesting ambergris doesn't require killing whales, many countries have banned the trade; the U.S. Endangered Species Act, for example, prohibits the possession and sale of it.  But in the U.K. it's legal, and the Williams are allegedly negotiating with buyers in France and New Zealand, according to the Mirror.

That's absurd. The law is an ass.

If doing what this couple did is illegal in the US, then that is News/Activism, thank you very much!

Don't vote for Trump or Cruz in 2016. Vote against Hillary or Bernie in 2016. That means, hold your nose (if necessary) and vote for the GOP candidate!

I saw an episode of Storage Wars where they found some in a locker. They took it to an aquarium to find out what it was he told them it’s illegal to sell, so they donated it. Maybe they could get a tax deduction out of it.

They should’ve booked the next flight to some place where it’s legal instead...

No, no, in the USA they must be corn-fed. Like our salmon, but without the orange dye.

A few years later, I was surprised to learn that your neighbor’s real name was “{Bad, Bad} Leroy Brown”.

Same wave length. Here in Hilo there is a candidate for county council by the name of Lee Loy. His signs are everywhere. Every time I see one I think of that song and him singing it. Bad, Bad, Lee Loy Blown.
