Translation: Politicians fear freedom and do not want to lose control of population.

Getting there isn’t the problem. Look into the issue of not having a magnetic field protecting from solar radiation.

On May 21, 1961 the President of the United States committed the nation to landing on the moon in that decade...and the American people got behind it.

Apollo 11 left for the moon in mid July 1960 and then on July 20, 1969, the United States landed on the moon and Neil Armstrong stepped out of the Lunar Module, which he piloted to the surface, onto the surface.

We easily could have permanent manned bases on the moon now.

We easily could, if we had the will and were to make a similar national commitment, land on Mars by 2025, and have permanent bases there by the 2030s.

It is all a matter of leadership, national will, and a commitment to something beyond ourselves and our creature comforts for the good of our children and grandchildren’s future.

God grant that the American people will awake from the malaise and stupor that they have been cajoled and mesmerized into by progressive socialists who promise the world and deliver nothing, and do so to control the people and the strength, vitality, and capabilities of our great Republic.

China will be colonizing Mars while Europe is being overrun by Muslims and the US is being overrun by Mexicans.

The West has no future, except as either harem women or harem eunuchs.

You’d think with all that money Obummer got printed in his first term, that he handed out to his crony bankers and wall streeters, you’d have thought that he could of handed a couple of shekels to NASA.

True, but the same as mining any small asteroid, which a few companies are now looking at.

NASA is the NY Jets. Still thinking they are relevant for the great thing they did in 1969.

[ Rumors abound on the internet about why we haven’t been back to the moon.
My personal favorite is that aliens said keep out. ]

Some moonwalk astronauts have said some interesting and weird things...about things like that....

[ So why are we spending on the development of the Orion capsule and launch system which will be obsolete long before we make any real effort to go to Mars? This all sounds like vaporware to keep some contracts running while any real exploration effort will happen elsewhere. ]

the only thing they seem to make these days is slick computer animations for the controlled state media....

The US Space Program is one serious economic recession away from disappearing entirely.

Perhaps private entrepreneurs can pick up the slack in the future. I just don’t know.

I’d say we have a lot more pressing concerns here on earth. If someone wants to put their private money into this then more power to them but we don’t have the money for this.

I was trained as a scientist (inquire, investigate, and all that), and I agree with you completely.

A person in debt ought not spend a huge amount of (borrowed) money to travel to, say, the Australian outback in the off chance he might find something interesting there. That person should get his own finances in order first.

Same goes for countries.

[ Would have to be underground.

Anywhere we go in the solar system, we will be permanent cave dwellers. ]

We should build some test underground cities and habitats underground on the ice free areas of Antarctica first to get the tech figured out, then we could use robots to build underground bases on Ceres and the moon etc... THEN send settlers there.
