Wake up, Cruz and Kasich — the GOP convention will never nominate you
New York Post ^ | 3-23-2016 | John Podhoretz

Let’s imagine for a moment that Donald Trump isn’t going to be the Republican nominee for president. There are three ways this fantasy — and it is likely nothing more than a fantasy — becomes a reality.

Pretty good article. Which is why Mitt Romney filed papers with FEC in January and why Paul Ryan continues to say “not interested”, which all us guys learned in high school backseats usually means “Maybe...if you ask real nice”.

The cold hard fact remains that Cruz is hated by his own party and will instantly be sued on the birthplace issue if he ever were to become the nominee. There’s no way in hell the GOPe will select him for those reasons. Jeb! and Litel Marco have fallen so far they are no longer viable choices.

They make the rules, they can change the rules and screw Trump and put in a Romney/Ryan or similar slate of candidates and take their chances with lawsuits and general chaos. At least (they will lie to themselves) they will have “saved the Party” and protected the Congressional majority.

Meanwhile Trump has lots of cards to play. None good for the GOPe. Ted has none.

“The third is that Trump doesn’t secure enough delegates to win it on the first ballot and the GOP rises up on subsequent ballots to take it away from him and give the nomination to someone else.”

So when Trump goes to the convention with over Five Million votes more then any competitor, you hope they give it to someone else. Good for you, what you want, is much more important than those Five Million people that voted.

I agree with this. I don't know what he really thinks but if I were Cruz's strategy guy I would try to be the guy who didn't get the nomination but left everyone saying "oh wow, we should have picked him". You know, Reagan 1976. Then four years later, try to parlay that into something. It's his best hope. Not this year.

From the article: ... “Cruz’s political rise in Washington came when he won by losing....he got himself famous by opposing his own party, forcing a government shutdown,... claiming he and his followers had been screwed by Establishment Republicans. It worked for him. It’s not going to work for him now. You can’t win the GOP nomination by losing.”

Winning by losing, now that’s a great strategy!

Perception is reality. If this convention is contested, and trump gets bounced, whomever the party sends forth will have major PR issues with Trump’s base of millions of voters.

Chaos bitches...

The truth is that more and more it’s beginning to look like Trump can’t get there either. Why else all the talk about how he is going to be ‘robbed’ at the convention?

If the RNC holds a brokered convention and even though the people have rejected him, Jeb Bush will likely get the nomination.

I think that's a possibility. The Bush's run the GOPe and they want Jeb. Period. Would make Jeb's absurd comment about being prepared to lose the primary to win the general election seem far less absurd, wouldn't it?

Because that’s the plan the GOPe is openly admitting to?

He's a business man, not a lawyer/politician.

He’s already ahead of Ted by 2.1 million votes. He appeals to every demographic and region.

John P. is correct:

“Ted Cruz should stop playing for second, because if he comes in second, he’s not going to be the nominee. The only way he gets to grasp the brass ring is to beat Trump outright. It’s a nearly insuperable challenge. But there it is.”

Sneaky Ted is no conservative. And we all keep forgetting he should have been DQ’d from the start. One of the other candidates should have challenged him form the go. It’s not fair to the voters who may have chosen one of the other 17 candidates. Assuming they were to ‘give’ it to Ted, he will be challenged in every single state and at the federal level.

Three must win States

Florida

Ohio and Virginia

Ted third place and less than 20% isn't a job resume

The logic is clear. Cruz’s political rise in Washington came when he won by losing. That is to say, he got himself famous by opposing his own party, forcing a government shutdown, not getting what he wanted and claiming he and his followers had been screwed by Establishment Republicans. It worked for him.

It’s not going to work for him now. You can’t win the GOP nomination by losing.

You lose Cruz — NO MATTER WHAT.

Realize it now and figure out your way ahead — by quitting the race.

One good thing: North Dakota is the last Caucus until the end of the Primaries!
