Is it just me, or is our flag being lowered to half more and more all the time?
Here are the times the US flag has been flown at half mast in the past 6 months (many times for a week at a time.)
US - 3/22/2016 US Flags at Half Staff Honoring the Victims of the Attacks in Brussels, Belgium
US - 3/7/2016 US Flags at Half-Staff Honoring Nancy Reagan
US - 2/13/2016 US Flags at Half Staff Honoring Antonin Scalia
US - 12/3/2015 US Flags at Half-Staff - Honoring The Victims Of The Attack In San Bernardino, California
US - 11/15/2015 US Flags to Half-Staff Honoring Victims of Paris Terrorist Attack
US - 10/4/2015 US Flags to Half Staff National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service
US - 10/2/2015 US Flag to Half-Staff Honoring the Victims of the Tragedy in Roseburg, Oregon
This of course are just instances of the US officially declaring the flag flown at half-mast due to some tragedy. This is not taking into account when a state governor declares that a flag is flown at half-staff because some local fire fighter, state senator, or police officer (like for Sergeant Dillion J. Semolina flag at half-staff on Feb 26 or for Deputy Steven Sandberg flag at half mast on October 23, 2015 )
And after all these, we still have the regular days remembrance where the flag is at half mast.
Peace Officers Memorial Day Memorial Day Patriot Day Korean War Veterans Armistice Day National Firefighters Memorial Day Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favor of honoring the dead, and especially our veterans, but does anyone else think the flag is half mast a little too often?
I mean, there's only 365 days a year.
PLUS>>>> While we are on a rant: What in the world are all of these dweebs with flag lapel pins doing??? They are wearing American Flag lapel pins with something placed upon the flag??? STOP PUTTING EMBLEMS ON THE AMERICAN FLAG!! There is nothing to be added to the flag - NOTHING - NADA - ZIP! On TV you can see something on the flag lapel pins but it is indistinguishable as to what they are adding. I do recall seeing a flag pin with a Secret Service emblem and I believe the Republican Party elephant symbol... maybe. At any rate our national flag should never have anything placed upon it - EVER!
1993. It took that long to get over Bubba's election and inauguration.
You nailed it.
Don’t worry, all of the good people will be dead before long.
I am not sure why we are dropping the flag for victims of terror in Europe. Supreme Court Justices is reasonable. First lady? Not so sure on that one.
And aside from Memorial Day, there is no reason to drop the flag for any of those other days. At least nationwide.
We just lost a State Trooper the other day. I am fine with it being lowered for police, firemen, and other first responders for the days between their deaths and their funerals.
But if I step on a bug? Nah, we can get through that without being in mourning.
Half staff? More like upside down.
The bar for flying the Stars and Stripes at half-staff/mast has been lowered because the criteria has been dumbed down. I believe it is the work of liberal democrats and no, the media does not question it. It demonstrates how when certain people get a taste of ‘power’, they like it and then find it hard to let go of, especially when it involves having an effect on people’s emotions.
#lookatmeimhelping
And upside down as well.
I took mine down years ago. Won’t be back until O’Muslim is gone from his usurper office.
Indubitably.
It’s called The New World Order
We are all equal.
To go along with your post, sort of, Neil Armstrong never signed his name across the flag on his space suit. He had too much respect for what it stood for. Also, shortly after returning from Apollo 13, Jim Lovell and his wife along with Jack Swigert went to a production of “Hair”. They all got up and left when the production brought out the flag and treated it badly. Swingers later said that when he flew in space he represented that flag. Like Armstrong and Lovell, he has too much respect for it.
Surprised it is not being flown upside down
“... the criteria has been dumbed down.”
Just as has the word “hero”.
Right on, Jackson!
