The Almighty Dollar is GOD to a lot of people. - The best
setup I’ve seen is at the Nashville Zoo. The habitats are
in large areas of the outdoors.

“Have visited zoos all my life; but
seeing big cats caged & becoming mentally unbalanced by
the confinement is sad to me.”

I agree.

The back and forth pacing, hour after hour, day after day,is heartbreaking.

The wales were kept in very small quarters too.

We do spend a lot of time there. But I do miss the old style circus. They were such fun. We also go to all the local fairs and rodeos.

That makes no sense. They are running to other countries without war.

But you said they would be happier in a war zone.

Which is it?

I said most humans would be happier in a war zone than locked in a cage. Moving to a wealthy peaceful country from a war zone is not moving into a cage.

There are exceptions but most humans and animals do not do well locked in the same room for years. No-matter how safe it is or how good the food is.

Even the most violent max security prisoners get to leave their cages for at least 1hr a day because it has been proven that total lockup causes insanity. Yet we subject zoo animals to that type of treatment.

If you go out to a rural farm you will see a lot of dogs and cats that live their whole life free of fences of restraint. They still live in the bar and under the porch and love their owners. Domestication and imprisonment aren’t the same. If people want to see whales there are plenty of nice cruises off the Alaskan Coast.

You are delusional. Nobody wants to live in a war zone. A cage - with all the food and sex you want, and no threat of being eaten - is infinitely better than a war zone.

East and West coast too. I took a day cruise on a smallish boat. Lots of fun seeing the whales and dolphins.

The two cats I saw years ago, big cats - were in a small
cage. They were running from each side, meeting in the
middle in a coordinated exercise over & over & over sort
of like you see some circus cats do as an “entertainment”.
For animals designed to range over many miles, they only
had a few feet; but they used everything they had. This was
at the Memphis zoo, where the old lady used to kidnap little
kids playing in the very sandbox I also played in as a small
child. My mother watched me like a hawk bless her; but I’m
sure the kids who got snatched by the burly employees of the
old woman were also watched by parents. Just looking away
for a few seconds was all they needed to do their evil deed.
(These chidren were sold to rich couples wishing to adopt.)

Well,
the people, who produced documentaries such as Blackfish, and “The Tiger in your Backyard” make no such distinctions. Captivity = Fate Worse than Death, full-stop, end of argument.

If you REALLY think that they have even the *SLIGHTEST* willingness to make exceptions for so-called ‘better’ facilities, think again. In the minds of such people there is absolutely NO difference between a roadside shithole, and a state of the art zoological facility. Not when you’re slonganeering 24/7 “better dead than bred”.

I don’t watch much tv. We live in a remote area & don’t
wish to struggle to pay for all those cruddy channels we
don’t want to watch anyway. - Also not interested in
“joining” any of the clubs or groups out there. As you say,
most are based on ignorance or maybe a grain of truth. -
Like DDT. The “activists” & movie stars kept on until they
got shed of DDT & millions of people worldwide who had
depended on DDT to control mosquitos were left defenseless
and died from malaria & other mosquito-borne illnesses.
Maybe mosquito nettings for beds help some; so it’s better
to light a candle (donating to groups that provide nets)
than to curse the darkness.

Too bad someone hadn’t successfully banned Japan from killing the over 300 whales in the Antarctic. Sea World and the Killer Whales is nothing.
