Persistent cough that won't go away

Hey Freepers!

What are your cough remedies?

I've had a persistent and overwhelming cough since December.

I've been to multiple doctors, been on anti biotics, had all kinds of cough syrups and drops. Nothing seems to stop it.

Anyone have a home remedy? Thanks in advance!

Is it dry or wet?

Whiskey and honey hot toddies. Might still have the cough, but you won’t be nearly so concerned about it. In that same vein, warm ginger brandy in a snifter. The toddies are what mom made for me when I was a kid as I was allergic to just about everything.

A couple of questions.

Are you bringing anything up? If so what color is it?

Does the coughing ease when you are in a warm humid environment?

Cod liver oil. You can’t take too much. This won’t help your cough right away but will help heal your mucous membranes and keep them healthy.

ACE inhibitor blood pressure meds can give you a hacking cough. Otherwise, allergies? Chronic bronchitis?

Just from past experience, it sounds like your bronchial tubes remain inflamed from all the coughing, It becomes a vicious cycle. The cure for this is a steroid, or about five days of prednisone.Or an inhaler. Yes, you need another prescription.

We use marshmallow root tea...the herb, not the fluffy candy 😉. It is even more effective when combined with lemon balm. Add a quality raw honey and it should help.

Not that this applies to you, but maybe someone, certain blood pressure medications cause an irritating cough.

Hope it’s not bronchitis. I haven’t been sick at all through any of this.

I have a friend who swears by Hydrogen Peroxide for many ailments. Make a solution of 1 tablespoon of 3% H2O2, a to a quart of warm distilled water. Drink it as you would regular water.

I did find some relief from a sore throat gargling with a 1.5% solution, but never tried it for anything else.

I just recently has a bout of acute bronchitis that lasted about 3-4 Weeks.

I forget the antibiotics that I got that finally knocked it out.
