The baby sea lion that snuck into a La Jolla restaurant is being fed and treated by specialists at SeaWorld San Diego, who said Friday that the malnourished and emaciated animal was improving.
"She's pretty content right now," said SeaWorld senior animal care specialist Kevin Robinson. "She's getting along great. She's had a few good meals and plenty of buddies."
And she's been given the name Marina.
Employees at the Marine Room restaurant found the pup, which is about the size of a small dog, asleep on a seat near a window overlooking the ocean about 8 a.m. Friday, said manager Matt Caponi. Employees called a SeaWorld rescue team, and the pup was awake and moving around by the time the team arrived.
The 8-month-old female California sea lion was underfed and dehydrated, SeaWorld officials said. At 20 pounds, she is considered a "micro pup," meaning she is half the normal weight for her age.

If only they had the same care for innocents killed by Dindus and illegals.

aaahhhh. In 2006 my daughter, granddaughter, and I went to Sea World and stayed in a motel walking distance from the park. Just before we went to dinner this big van showed up and several young people started hauling animals into one of the motel rooms below us. We stood on the balcony and watched them bring in parrots, monkeys, snakes, a sloth, and the best was the joey. Just amazing to watch. We expected a rowdy night but it was all quiet.
Besides the “Aw, poor baby” comments, most blame climate change though one has it right that without human intervention it’s nature;s way of culling over population.
I’ve been around a lot of different animals over my life, & the intelligence range is as variable as with humans. A seal pup with the smarts to go find help is worthy of assistance. Of course, if we protect the smart ones, they might end up competing with us for domination of the earth eventually. ;-)
Nice; ever hear the one about the baby seal?
“A baby seal walks into a club...”
(That’s the joke)
Ouch! LOL!
Bingo. Eventually, they will find the ER on their own. :)
When my son was a tyke, we camped out on the black sand beach at Shelter Cove. We encountered a seal pup. We had tinned sardines, and my boy put some on the ground, a short distance from the seal’s nose. The pup crawled over and ate. Magic moment.
But will they be able to meet the deductible and copay?
We were kayaking at Moss Landing the day after Christmas and we accidentally got too close to a couple of seal pups on the beach. The rangers on the beach went nuts telling us to back off. We had come around a point and didn’t even know they were there. The harbor and estuary was FULL of harbor seals, otters, otter pups (yes, I. December), and sea lions. It was spectacular.
