CHICAGO (CBS) — A Cook County commissioner and others have called on Gov. Bruce Rauner to declare a state of emergency in Chicago, after shootings and murders skyrocketed last month.
Commissioner Richard Boykin (D-1st) said he’s sending a letter to the governor, asking him to declare a state of emergency in the city, as a step toward quelling the alarming level of violence on the streets.
Chicago police have said nearly 300 people were shot last month, more than double the total from January 2015; and 51 people were murdered, an increase of 75 percent over last year.

Chicago reported 516 homicides in 2012 not 806.
20 or so were justifieds.
Houston reported 217 total homicides in 2012.
Detroit, St Louis, New Orleans and Philadelphia were much worse places than Chicago in the large city categories. Chicago will be striving hard to catch up this year.
The CTU should be dec.ared a criminal organization and Lewis charged with thousands of counts of child abuse.

I lived and worked in Manhattan for a couple of years in the early 1990s (pre-Giuliani). NYC was a cesspool. Giuliani saved the city. De Blasio is quickly destroying it again.
Barely, and not until the courts forced the Democrats to permit it a couple of years ago.

Don’t know what you mean by “barely”. I carry freely in both Chicago and all of the collar counties. There are surprisingly few of those stupid signs around.
We have a shall issue system that’s largely worked pretty well. Take your classes, pay the fees, (which are way too high and ripe for a lawsuit IMO) and you get your permit in about 30 days.
You can carry whatever you are comfortable with, permits are not weapon specific in any way. We have no AWB here, either. ARs, AKs, FN types, even Barrets can be had if you can afford them. Several high end gun manufacturers call Illinois home. Rock River, Springfield Armory, DS Arms, are just a few.
Chicago is a sewer to be sure. But it’s not the entire State.
