Armslist.com Responds To Obama’s Gun Control Initiative

Armslist.com is an online classified site for people looking to sell firearms. Armslist doesn’t handle the transaction, they allow ads for people wanting to sell guns or gun related gear and the transaction is handled between the individual buyer and seller.

“Today’s action regarding background checks is well-meaning, but ultimately ineffective.” Jon Gibbon, a principal at Armslist, stated to the Daily Caller. “The proposed actions do nothing to make useful information more available to private individuals.”

Individuals visiting Armslist.com are required to agree to terms and conditions before using the site. Armslist even provides the contact information to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosive if anyone is confused about the legality of the transaction.

When asked about the additional background check requirements Gibbon stated, “Many, if not most, private sellers want to do background checks. Oftentimes, the reason they do not is because under the current system, their only recourse is to physically go to a licensed dealer and pay the dealer a fee to do the check. This is costly and burdensome. We need to change this, and make NICS information more accessible to private citizens.”

President Obama claims that the new measures will reduce gun violence. When asked if he agrees Gibbon stated, “We must shed light on those who seek to operate under the cover of darkness. Further scrutiny of law-abiding people will not stop criminals. The limited ATF and FBI resources should be spent catching actual criminals rather than scrutinizing law-abiding citizens.”

We all share the goal of reducing the intentional misuse of guns and enhancing the safety of our communities. As the trade association for the firearms and ammunition industry, the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) will carefully review all aspects of the executive actions that President Obama announced today. Much remains to be spelled out. In the interim we have some initial reactions:

We support further resources being allocated to staffing and increasing operational hours for the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) to make the system more efficient and responsive.

We represent Federal Firearms Licensees (FFLs). The criteria for what will constitute being “engaged in the business” going forward needs considerable clarification and raises questions about enforceability.

The number of firearms lost or stolen while in transit to or from FFLs is less than 0.15 percent of the number manufactured and imported in a given year. In these rare occurrences, FFLs already actively participate in ATF’s long-standing voluntary reporting program and FFLs and common carriers work closely with ATF to investigate them. Proposals to make a shipping FFL responsible for tracking and reporting firearms no longer in their inventories, after the legal title has been transferred to the purchaser, are misdirected, as the receiving FFL is in the best position to know if it receives its shipment.

We have long called for the effective enforcement of the numerous laws already on the books regarding the criminal misuse of firearms and would encourage the administration to carry through on this directive.

NSSF has been working actively since early 2013 through our FixNICS initiative to encourage states to report all appropriate adjudicated mental health records to NICS and has succeeded in getting legislation passed in more than a dozen states. We welcome the administration’s attention to this issue.

With regard to the development of “smart-gun” technology, the industry has never opposed its development. How additional government research into this technology would advance it is unclear. Law enforcement agencies and consumers themselves will have to make the determination whether acquisition of firearms with this technology “would be consistent with operational needs,” as the White House itself states. We would continue to oppose mandates for this technology, particularly since there are well proven existing methods to secure firearms, and firearms accidents are at historic low levels.

NSSF will have additional responses in the days, weeks and months ahead, especially as federal departments and agencies begin the work of carrying out the executive orders.

The vast majority of Armslists transactions are done through an FFL and include a standard federal background check

Accomplishing something wasn’t his goal. Taking credit was.

He took credit for something he didn’t have any reason to take credit for, but the low information voters now think that Obama has stopped hardened gang banging felons fresh out of prison from purchasing fully automatic machine guns on line or at a gun show when they couldn’t do so any way before.

Deception. Lying. False accusation and demonizing of his political enemies like republicans and gun owners, like THEY are the problem, while exploiting the deaths of children and innocent men and women to advance his agenda and ego.

Obama is just evil.

‘’Accomplishing something wasn’t his goal. Taking credit was.’’

Exactly.

This is how one of the most notorious politicians of all time, Pontius Pilot, who handed our Lord and Savior, the Son of God, the Word Incarnate, Jesus Christ (praise His name forever and ever), over to the Jews for execution, could answer Jesus, “Truth, what is that?”

More and more politicians are salesmen, constantly marketing themselves for the populace, with little regard for welfare of others or even truth itself.

I have bought, sold, and traded several through that website and through texasguntrader. I’ve never bothered with going through a FFL. I looked up the requirements once for getting one, and the main thing that I took away from it was that if you have a FFL, most of your transactions cannot involve yourself or your family members.

President Trump has vowed that on his first day in office, he will revoke this EO and every other unconstitutional EO issued by Obama. It would be even better if President Trump simply revoked ALL of Obama’s EOs with Trump Presidential EO #1, and then reissued any that actually might some merit.

Unless the transaction involves two different States, I doubt this.
