I find that a 30 minute or more walk in the early evening (i.e. after dinner) helps me to fall asleep much easier. Last couple nights, it’s been very cold here and I haven’t been taking those walks. I did have trouble falling asleep last night as a result. If the cold weather keeps up, I might have to re-tackle “Infinite Jest” on my Kindle in bed. Somebody recommended that book to me a couple summers ago and I could never get past the first few chapters.

What’s odd is that I never cared much for dark chocolate until I started drinking my coffee black. When I added cream and sugar to my coffee, I guess it stood to reason that I would prefer the sweet milk chocolate as well. But drinking the black coffee triggered an appreciation for the bitterness and bite of the darkest chocolate. It’s almost like my body is now talking to me and telling me what it needs.

I grew up in a trucking family, and my mom made coffee so dark that the drivers commented how strong it was. Never knew coffee was a drink until I left home—always considered it a drug. I still like it black and strong. Turkish coffee— straight up—was the only thing I ever found that I liked in the Middle East.

My 1st cup of the morning comes when the pot is still brewing. Best of the day

Thanks to you both for the information. This is very good to know for myself, and I will also pass along. I’ll go sometime soon, maybe to Sprouts, and look into getting a couple of good dark chocolate bars and see if I have any good/noticeable reactions to it.

And SamAdams76, I definitely understand the hampered motivation when the deep freeze sets in. :) Book reading the warm indoors sounds much more comfy.

That’s really interesting how your body and tastes changed like that. I’ve only ever had coffee with sweetness and milk, but *rarely* do I have coffee...just once in a blue moon foo-foo Starbucks mocha type deal.

I’ve had the Green & Black...may have picked up the dark by accident one time. It is very delicious chocolate.

Serotonin is a natural antidepressant, which goes to work immediately to lift your spirits as well as help to stabilize your mood swings, which are associated with depression.

This is very important to me and good to know.

I am with you on that. Right in front of the starboard TG behind the back wall of maneuvering. Our unit mixed coffee and water. Hot water was available for other things like tea or soup. SSN 668.

... so it was easy for the EOOW to lean out and get the RO, EO, and throttleman coffee, as necessary. ;-)

Is that really true, or just apocryphal?

if true, seems strange that one comment can make you change the way you drink coffee!

Me, I like a French press, freshly ground beans, and chocolate cream to sweeten it.

Although, I’ve never drunk it black, so...who knows, maybe I’d like it?

See ya’,

Ed
