At the time, the other cast members of the new Star Wars flick were taping an appearance on "The Graham Norton Show," Hamill told The Independent newspaper.
"Star Wars movies are meant to be a couple of hours of diversion from reality, and we need that," the newspaper quoted him as saying. "They are optimistic and hopeful stories."
But, he said, such things are "very trivial," compared with bringing comfort to ailing kids.
The hospital's staff thanked Hamill in a tweet: "Thanks so much for coming to visit our patients Mark - everyone absolutely loved it :)"
As could be expected, Hamill's fans also adored the move.

He is supposed to have put his face through a car window in an accident and had plastic surgery to correct it.
60 is the new 40.
I hope you’re right! :D I am a fitness trainer, and although I train all ages, I concentrate on those 40-you name it. I have seen so many sedentary seniors bounce back, even to the point where they are running races when they could barely get themselves off the floor before. Not all of these are my clients, but I have seen this within the industry. Yes, 60 is the new 40. I’m always a little frustrated because my face looks 60, but in every other area, including build, I look and feel much younger.
Liberal or not, he appears to be as wholesome in real life as he is in Star Wars:

On December 17, 1978, Hamill married dental hygienist Marilou York in a private civil ceremony.[38] They have three children together: Nathan (born June 25, 1979), Griffin (born March 4, 1983), and Chelsea Elizabeth (born July 27, 1988).[39] Nathan was born during the production of The Empire Strikes Back and had a cameo role in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, playing one of the Royal Guards of Naboo.
On January 11, 1977, one day before he was set to shoot one of the scenes in Star Wars, Hamill was in a car accident in which he fractured his nose and left cheekbone,[40] requiring seven hours of surgery. As a result, a double was used for the landspeeder pickup shots.[41] According to Hamill in a recorded interview, he was driving his BMW on a freeway and became distracted, and seeing that he was missing his offramp, tried to negotiate four lanes of traffic. Hamill stated in that interview that some of the real scars from the crash made an appearance in The Empire Strikes Back.[42][43] Hamill also acknowledged that the stories surrounding his injuries had become exaggerated in an episode of children’s program Ask Aspel. Stating that he had only broken his nose, Hamill observed “over the period of years it’s built up into having my face reconstructed with plastic surgery.”[44]
A good man-—He knows what is right thing to do. He made the right choice.

Not entirely sure that accounts for the change in his overall appearance. Have met many people in person who have been in bad accidents and had the opportunity to view their injuries.
But, I am not a doctor and do not play one on TV.
Between the 1st and 2nd films, he was in a near fatal car wreck. They added the Ice Planet scene at the beginning of the movie, as I understand, to provide cover for his newly scarred appearance.
I seem to remember that he was injured in a pretty bad
car crash.
He looks fine.
Hamil had a horrific car wreck after Star Wars came out. That’s one of the reasons “Empire” started the way it did, they needed to explain how his face got so badly scarred.
He’s a lib? So what. He’s doing right by the kids and that transcends politics. He’s always impressed me as a pretty good guy.
Don’t put off that bath room break during Force awakens for Luke to show up
You have to wonder how long it took to replenish the world's supply of botox after prepping her for the movie, I was surprised she could even speak or blink with her face so frozen!
I saw him in another film earlier this year - Kingsman: The Secret Service. I totally failed to recognize him. It wasn't until I read somewhere that there was a Star Wars reference in the film related to Mark Hamill's appearance in the film that I knew he was in it. I had to look up Kingsman on IMDB to find out who Hamill had played. He actually had a fairly major role and I had no idea it was him.
The fact he has been married for over 30 years for being in hollywood speaks a LOT to his base character.
Actually he was in a bad car wreck and needed plastic surgery
Thank you Essie. Mark is not a druggie. Thats Fisher and Ford. Mark is a respected and highly regarded family man. There has never been any scandal about him. Politics aside hes a genuinely good.man.
