I agree. I can't understand a word they sing anymore with that dang microphone jammed in their mouths.
That’s pretty much the song that made them.
They pulled in material from everywhere. Richard once said that their main influences were “the 3 B’s — the Beatles, Bacharach, and the Beach Boys.”
One night when Richard couldn’t sleep, he was up late watching a movie on TV. A commercial for Crocker Bank came on, and Richard, noticing the music bed, decided they had to do that song. It was “We’ve Only Just Begun”.
Somebody should put together a Karen Carpenter tribute album.
Thank you for posting, harmony is hard to find on the radio nowadays.
Christmas time is what liberals HATE!
It reminds them of what I, as a Christian, cherish and look forward to each December.
The birth of the Savior of the world, born in a manger, come to save mankind from their inequities.
That's as deep as I'm going into politics here tonight, but believe me, liberals hate Christmas for that very reason.
Merry Christmas!
I watched the 2015 British documentary, "Amy" the other day and immediately thought about Karen Carpenter.
She was such a talent.
What a shame we lost her so soon.
Thanks. Saw the movie years ago. Heartbreaking.
Wow what a coincidence, just yesterday I was viewing YouTube videos of the Carpenters and listening to Karen’s beautiful voice.
I too also got to see the Carpenters at Harrah’s Tahoe back in 1975. Their opening act was the Righteous Brothers. I was 12 at that time and looking back I am so grateful to have seen their act 6 years before her passing. I remember Karen asking everyone if there are any kids in the audience. God I wanted to jump up and run from the table (Dinner Show) and up to the stage. The reason was her next song was “Sing Sing a Song”.
You are right they are a Class Act and there will never be another class act like them. I wish Karen had gotten help but Anorexia was rarely diagnosis. Her death was not in vain because her death allowed this ugly illness to revealed to the public which was unheard of back then.
Thanks, What a wonderful voice she had. I’ve been following her daughters career and that voice comes out sometimes.

My mom also loved Karen’s voice. I think of her every time I hear the Carpenters sing.
Bfl.
Thanks!
Nice. Her voice along with the production value is just amazing. IMHO.
Also it occurred to me that the main voice ‘bank commercial’ in the movie was Paul Williams. Could be wrong, tho.
Back when pop music was beautiful and not just stupid.
You do a good job. Karen has a great voice.
There was a Carpernterâs retrospective on PBS just a couple of nights ago and yes, Paul Williams discussed writing and singing the bank commercial.
There was a point where Karen went off and did an album without her brother where she used her upper range. I don't think it was ever released. People who heard it said her lower range was much better.
Crystal clear and effortless with perfect phrasing , what a voice!
First concert I ever attended was in 1972 at the Budokan, Tokyo-Japan...The Carpenters! We were so far up in the nose-bleed section...had to use binoculars, but the music sure was good!
