Former US president Jimmy Carter announced that he was cancer-free on Sunday, just four months after revealing that doctors had found four spots of melanoma on his brain.

“My most recent MRI brain scan did not reveal any signs of the original cancer spots nor any new ones,” Carter said in a statement on Sunday. “I will continue to receive regular 3-week immunotherapy treatments of pembrolizumab,” he added, referring to a common cancer drug.

Carter, 91, first shared the news with worshippers at the Baptist church in Georgia where he teaches Bible study on Sunday. The news was confirmed by two grandsons.

Jimmy Carter announces he is cancer-free after latest MRI

He's cancer-free on an MRI, but the MRI cannot see down to the cellular level. There is a very good chance there are individual cancer cells still lurking about.

No matter what, he's only got a few years left. So say the actuarial tables.

Well, it must ‘pay’ to be ‘rich and famous’.

On Jeopardy was a Medical type that said she was in Liberia during the ‘Ebola’ out break.

Which reminded me of two thing the WORLD should be ‘after’ the Administration for.

An AMERICAN ‘came down’ with it, was given a shot, heard of a few more cases, now you don’t hear a thing about it. -Even though the ‘scare tactic’ was the World was coming to a brutal end...etc...etc...
Would at least think the world (Africa) would be weeweed off because WE had the ‘cure’ and didn’t use it etc etc

Also in the day of Chicquamitas, DeSroulsmnops, etc it was refreshing to see the name of the LIBERIAN NATIVE who came down with Ebola - ‘Thomas Eric Duncan’.

If the above line ‘true’ why is it that ‘native born types’ are coming up with names that look like someone just tossed a bunch of letters in the air and picked all from ‘area b’ while a person BORN IN AFRICA has a name like John Smith.
(Yes, I realize a lot of Smiths in Liberia as they ‘adopted’ the name Smith when Liberated to Africa by US Govt and Private donations’.
With the present day attitude shown by certain ‘groups’ one would think they would be more whizzed off at their ancestors for not accepting the ‘free, one way trip’ back to the motherland.
Of course if one isn’t ‘taught’ that particular phase of US History from around 1820, through Civil War years and beyond, one doesn’t know the opportunity is/was available.
(wonder if that opportunity is still ‘on the books’?)
Go figure

The limits of radiographic detection of tumors is about 3mm, which would contain approximately 300,000 cancer cells. Carter is in remission, meaning to the limits of detection, no tumor can be currently demonstrated. Time will tell if the remission is durable.

Sorry to contradict, but the UK does it all the time. The latest is a new drug that restores the sense of pain and helps sufferers avoid damaging their bodies.

You are correct. I have to admit the UK and France have made advances I'm sure I don't know about. I just assume given their socialized system that their R & D, etc isn't as robust as it could be in a more free market situation. Same for us too now with Obamacare.

On the 12th of this month, I will have been cancer-free for 35 years. I had Stage IV, metastatic malignant melanoma.....the same as Carter. I did 18 months of chemo, 10 days of intense radiation and immunotherapy.

Miracles happen......

Anyone know what wine goes good with Oreo cookies?

I would consider a dry Leibframilch unless you are going with the Red Velvet Oreos, in which case a Merlot or Burgundy is called for.
