Rubio Calls For U.S. to Defend Turkey Against Russia
Bad Blue ^ | 11/26/2015 | Humter Wallace

Posted on 11/26/2015 3:11:07 PM PST by conservativejoy

This type of insane rhetoric alone should be enough to disqualify Rubio as a legitimate candidate for president:

"It is important for us to be very clear that we will respond and defend Turkey if they come under assault from the Russians. Otherwise the entire NATO alliance comes into question," Rubio, who is running for president, said on Fox News.

"If Russia believes that they can respond and retaliate against Turkey because NATO is not going to do anything about it, what they are basically doing is making the argument that NATO is no longer viable, that it is a feckless alliance."

The incident was the first time a NATO member has shot down a Russian target since the Cold War, and it threatened to escalate the political tensions surrounding the 4 year old civil war in Syria."

The neocons are still smarting over their failure to start World War 3 during the Cold War. It was the one that got away.

Note: The fact that Trump isn't being advised by these lunatics is one of the strongest arguments for his candidacy. It was his shining moment in the last debate.

Bad idea, Rubio. We should talk tough, maybe add some economic sanctions but IN NO WAY, should we be talked into militarily opposing Moscow. I know about the NATO Treaty but we’re not in a position to waste American lives protecting Turks from Russians.

I don’t think when Turkey became part of the NATO alliance they were run by radical Islamists. They should be kicked out.

No way should we let Turkey drag us iinto a war with Russia.

While I agree with you, we do have legal obligations pursuant to the NATO treaty. Rather than get into a shooting war with Russia, we'd be better served mediating the dispute between Russia and Turkey. But only if he send a real negotiator, preferably someone from the private sector, and not have to rely on Jean Francois Kerry.

No - the responsible action is to boot Turkey from NATO.

Now that I agree with.

RUBIO IS CLEARLY AN IDIOT!! Defend an Islamist when the chickens come home to roost following aggressive & unnecessary military action against a military force that is actually fighting ISIS?

“How about we defend Al Qaeda too while we’re at it.”

I think Obama is supply arms to Al Qaeda in Syria.

Dr. Carson takes heat for things he DIDN’T say/do, then gets away with saying things that are clearly nuts (well ... fringy).

He also wants to re-invade all of Iraq with looser ROEs (No more Mr. Nice Guy?).

I want to love the guy, but does he even listen to what he’s saying? My wife is very leery of his religion. Are they apocalyptic?

Not when they conflict with our survival we don't.

With S-400 systems in place and fighter escorts, plus a missile cruiser, there is little chance France or the US will shoot down anyone.

No one flies without permission from southern Turkey, to northern Lebanon, to Crete, or to Jerusalem without risking being seen by the Russians and shot down at 150 miles from the S-400 system; this includes the French carrier and the USS Truman and their aircraft.

Let Turkey baste - it is a problem they made for themselves from the prime minister who proudly gave his personal go ahead to shoot the plane down, to Bilal Erdogan (the son of the tinpot dictator running the place) who buys ISIS oil.

Rubio is making it easy for us. The guy is not ready for prime time.

He's not even ready for overnight weekends.

I understand what you're saying. But there is no such "escape clause" in the NATO treaty. Personally, I would expel Turkey from NATO, as it no longer serves the purpose it once did (and it was not run by islamists when it joined NATO). Perhaps NATO's time has come and gone. It was created as opposition to the Soviet Union, which no longer exists. And today Russia has more in common with us than Turkey does.
