At 9:24 a.m. Tuesday, the Turks had finally had enough...

The dogfight did not come out of the blue. For days, Russian jets had been roaring along the Turkish border, bombing the hills on the Syrian side in support of an Assad regime attack on rebel forces.

Around 9 a.m. local time Tuesday, the Turks decided they had had enough. As two Sukhoi-24 fighter bombers flew over a spit of Turkish territory that juts into Syria, they scrambled two of their own fighters and issued warnings.

The Turkish jets, F-16s sold to Ankara by their close NATO allies the United States, engaged and shot down one of the SU-24s. The time was 9:24 a.m.

The downed plane had already, according to one account, released its payload of air-to-ground missiles on the rebels beneath.

And Obama would love to drag NATO into the fight to defend an ISIS ally.

Wonder if there is more to the story that we are not being told.

It’s amazing that there are so ethnic conflicts around the world yet liberals are relentless in their push to Balkanize America.

I've often made this very same observation. This faith in diversity is foolish and misplaced. It's divide and conquer, all right, but the liberals... or at least the white ones... won't like the results.

The spit of Turkish airspace is quite narrow. A jet will fly over it in MOMENTS, not even minutes (I would guess).

The Turks claim the flight path was 1.15 miles, lasting 17 seconds, which implies a ground speed of 244 mph. Altitude was 19,000 feet.

Turkey didn't "scramble" anyone. They "ambushed".

I got a feeling that the repeated Russian violation of Turkish airspace was meant to intimidate the Turks. The Turks didn't blink. Your move, Vlad.

And when Russia retaliates, and since Turkey and the US are NATO members and pledge to defend one another..............

Expel Turkey from NATO. Problem solved.

Erdogan is a sand nazi.

Vlad’s move. No one wants a war, but someone has to stop Putin. He’s like Hitler. Move into the Rhineland. Seize Czechoslovakia, annex Austria. The longer you wait to confront him, the worse it will be.

First we are not talking about top gun here. No dogfight occurred.

Second there are no good guys in this scenario. The Russians are provacateurs they push the envelope all the time with our guys. The Turks have been philosophically moving away from NATO for a few years now. They are not exactly the greatest allies and they probably are cooperating with ISIS to keep them attacking the Kurds. I believe one of the NATO leaders asked Turkey “why didn’t you just escort them out of the territory” meaning NATO is not eager to mix it up with the Russians over Turkey. And I agree.

Let Turkey and Russia work it out. NATO needs to stay out of it at this point.

Aren’t we in a pickle. 0bama’s left us with no good options.

The only one that ever made sense to me, and I suppose is still a good option, is bomb ISIS wherever they may be. ISIS wears the blackest hats. Kill them all. Let the rest of the chips fall where they may.

I saw an assessment from the Turks where they suggest the Russians were flying at less than their stall speed.

This was Turkey trying to get all up in Russia’ face because they like ISIS.

I got a feeling that the repeated Russian violation of Turkish airspace was meant to intimidate the Turks. The Turks didn't blink. Your move, Vlad.

I got a feeling that the Turks are pissing and moaning about the Russians flying over that two mile wide "finger" that juts into Syria and calling it a violation of their airspace.

Know this. The Syrian maps of their own country do not show that finger as being part of Turkey. The region is claimed by Syria as part of their own territory.

The Turks, of course, claim it is part of their territory. I believe the Russians have been flying over that finger repeatedly, but I am not convinced that they have flown into Turkey Proper. I think they have been flying over that disputed area, and Turkey deliberately made it into a confrontation.

I think the Russians will retaliate by taking out any Turkish aircraft that stray into Syria. I also think the Russians are going to start goading them into doing it.

I think we might see incursions into that finger with enough force to back it up if the Turks try that stunt again.

The Head Islamic Kook Turk is allied with ISIS, and he is pissed off that the Russians are killing his friends and destroying all that oil profit he was making by his relatives buying and selling that stolen oil.

We need to be smashing Islamic Turkey, not helping them against Russia.

So what are we supposed to do? Erdogan/Turkey is supporting ISIS, and is part of NATO. So now we’ve got Washington in effective alliance with the jihadists thanks to Turkey being in NATO.

Maybe Russia’s talk of defending Christendom is bluster, but at least they are talking the right talk, while Washington continues a 25-year policy of supporting jihad and promoting Christian persecution on three continents. So if forced to choose, I’m going with Moscow at this point. Geez, this world has gone nuts.

I understand Turkey’s “ambiguous” position in the war on ISIS. I believe the U.S. recognizes Turkey’s borders and is obligated to defend a NATO partner.

Before this gets out of hand and we do end up in another world war, it might be time for John Kerry and James Taylor to bring all the parties together for a sing along. It might be serous enough this time to bring Randy Newman along as well.
